Here's a map of the country that is updated daily with the current soil temps at a 4" depth. This might come in handy for all of us trying to figure out if it has warmed up enough to start planting anything yet in this weird spring. Now I just need another handy chart of temps at which each veggie seed best germinates to go with it... :caf

(The image should update itself here, I think... Click here for the full link which has more specific maps for each section of the country.)

ETA: Here's a pretty good germination temp chart.

Lots of great weather related links there, @journey11 ! Thank You :)!

A few things I don't like ;). Our soils are still in the 40's. And, growing degree days, behind North Dakota again?? I guess my seed dislikes that more than I do.

Wonderful Resource!

Steve :)

Interesting info. According to that I can direct seed corn and beans now. I have a cool period forecast for the middle of next week after today's storms. I was planning on starting some corn and beans at the end of next week as a test before I saw that any way. I'll still hold off a few days on okra, squash, and black eyed peas. It just doesn't feel right yet for them even if the chart says it is OK.

@digitS' , how did you get your weather map to update on its own? The link to the pic above broke. Must be a new image file they replaced it with?

@Ridgerunner , lucky you! You are in a whole other world than we are right now. ;)

It isn't a .gif, @journey11 and I don't know how it is changed with each update.

When we copy the code from the Weather Service, we just keep reloading that image and the Weather Service is updating it. Our computer goes looking for it. There it is. But, the WS has changed it.

My guess is that if we studied the code on the farm bureau webpage, we'd find a series of codes. Maybe it uses the date or just: 1, 2, 3, etc. We'd have to change the code to have the computer find the new image. They are deleting the old image.

Yeah, you're likely right. Must not be anything I can do about it.

It's a .jsp file. I have no idea what that is.
