My MIL gave me this cactus several years ago. I am so nervous that I night kill it off. So far so good. She says No Worry. IT is OLD if it dies it dies. But I consider it a Family Heirloom. The cactus was hers and her MIL's before that. It is easily 50 years old! It is in bloom right now. Pretty.

That is lovely!!
I have one like it. It was a cutting from an elderly neighbor's prized plant - given to my Mom when I was a kid. Now I've got it. I nearly killed it last year by putting it way up high so it would be safe from the cats... and then forgetting to water it. It hasn't bloomed yet this year but it's growing strong again.Yours is STUNNING! So full.

It looks very healthy. If you are worried wait until after in blooms and then nip off some cuttings where the plant forks. Just stick them into a potting mix and they will grow. In fact you could make plants for others that may want a piece of this family plant.

How many years will it grow or last? Fifty years is already a long time for a plant.

For centuries, I think as long as I don't bump it off. But neither son is married or has a girlfriend interested in my plants. :(

Already have. I gave my Mom a start. Long gone. Have one potted up now. Will continue to share.
