A new year and new dreams and plans. It was fun to document my garden progress last year so I'll do it again. And this group is awesome and I learn so much from you all!
I also started a blog where I'm going to post more pics as well.

I got a soil test done for the first time and the ph is 5.1! I was shocked but we are going to add lime to correct that.

I finally made an excel spreadsheet to organize my seeds and next I'll organize my actual seeds lol.

My hens finally started laying eggs after taking gover 2 months off . Its nice to have fresh eggs again.

We are expanding the garden this year. Cover crop of rye is slow to grow since I didnt sow it during fall.

Hubby is building some trellises for me that hopefully will be a permanent fixture in the garden beds. It's a bit of a chore to put up trellises and take them down each year. I plan to rotate the veggies so hopefully it will work out. I found this trellis system on YouTube, it's called"the trellis to make you jealous"

I also took the strawberry runners and planted another whole row with them.

Even tho its winter, I've been busy getting the garden ready for spring planting.

Almost every winter I feel the effects of seasonal affective disorder and this year I am intentionally going outside even in the cold to get sunlight and exercise.

How’s the garden going?

Thank you for asking. I've been so busy I haven't had time to update my thread. I'll do it now since I'm here.

In zone 7a the garden is still mostly sleeping. My garlic is doing amazing and we are getting some salad greens from the greenhouse. Inside the house the garden is booming lol. I have lots of spring seeds already started and also have pepper seeds started.

And we managed to get our tractor stuck in mud so that was exciting lol! Had to call a tow truck to come pull it out.

I made a pumpkin pie using a home grown pumpkin that a friend gave us. It was delicious!

I hope everyone survived the last crazy storm that came through few days ago!

It's been busy two weeks. I have all the seedlings I will need for spring crop. I just need to direct seed carrots, radishes, beets (some I've started in trays), peas and some greens.
Wr also received our bare root fruit so we planted those last night. We have two potted pecan trees which we plant this weekend since its pouring rain now.
The fruit trees were: 2apples, 2 pears, one each of peach, nectarine, cherry and plum. We already have one each of cherry, peach, plum and nectarine.
The pecans we will plant in the field since they can get up to 100feet tall.
I hope the trees will thrive in their location.

Garlic is growing with the warmer weather we've had. I hope we get a big harvest again!

Oh and I made sourdough cinnamon rolls and they were amazing! For tomorrow's breakfast I'm going to make sourdough biscuits.

It's been busy week up potting brassicas and starting beets, chard, tomatoes and habanero pepper seeds.
Also filled up 2 raised beds that will be dedicated for carrots, parsnips, turnips and salsify.
It's so pretty outside now and signs of spring are everywhere.

Spring is here and I am so happy! I see flowers on the strawberry plants, buds on the raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. Flowers on peach and plum trees. The cherry blossom is in full bloom. My rhubarb has over wintered wonderfully and is pushing through the dirt with vigor. Mint is starting to green up more and I even saw a honeybee last week!
We pruned all the fruit trees.
We finally decided to put in a fenced in garden in the field where we will grow berries and long season crops. I am not expecting much this year but I am still very excited.
Peas, carrots, parsnips, salsify, brocolli, lettuces, radish, spinach, mesclun mix and potatoes are all planted.
I have beautiful seedlings that I will be selling this friday.
I am more excited about this year's garden than in the past. I dont know if it's the current world situation or because we set a goal to grow 50% of all the veggies we eat in a year but I am ready to do the work. We will also be able to share a lot of it with neighbors and friends and family.

The garlic is a good stand & looks healthy. I hope mine turns out half as well.
