Thanks, Pat!
The roses are mostly in raised beds. Hopefully that would keep the escapees to a minimum. In a perfect world it would escape and battle the burmusa grass runners to the death! My luck though it will just join forces with the burmuda and create a whole new form of unstoppable...
I've been eyeing catmint in my gardening catalogs. It's pretty. I'm also looking at vinca minor and wintercreeper, both of which are perenial evergreens.
Any thoughts on those?

Not a problem! Instead of spearmint, I have burmuda grass taking over. I can't get rid of it!!! I"m hoping that by underplanting the roses with something I can keep the burmuda to a minimum.
For some reason, the roses grew like crazy last summer in the midst of our drought. I kept the...
Holy Cow! The way my beans grew last year they would completely swallow up the roses! They were planted near one of the rose bushes and the the bean worked their way up and over!
Has anyone ever used creeping phlox? It's somewhat evergreen here and gets pretty dense. I'm also wondering about...
What do you under plant your roses with? I need something that will keep the weeds down, so it will need to be a strong, dense grower.
Anyone ever use Vinca Minor?
thanks!

Anybody ever ordered from Starks? I just got their catalog and liked it. They had mostly fruit trees and vines.
Anybody ever order trees from a catalog?

Yeah, the stupid burmuda is growing like crazy in the garden and flower beds, where I don't want it, but won't even begin to grow in the backyard. Stupid burmuda grass. :barnie
Great ideas, Pat! I have pine straw I can add to the dirt for now to help keep our little paws cleaner. I'll start...
Hmmm... the worst is by the back door. I'm not sure I can keep the dogs off of it for a season. :/ Maybe I should put in a patio so the mud is further away from the back door.
I was hoping there was a particularly hardy grass seed that would sprout through anything!
Thanks for the help!

My dogs have torn up the grass in the back yard. Normally I don't care, but it's been a wet winter so far and shows no sign of stopping. I'm tired of the mud being tracked all over the house!
Anyone know of grass that will grow even with dog traffic on it?
thanks!
