    I have an idea!!! I have a leaky johnboat and 2 old water troughs that I can plant container gardens in and shade them during the mid-day heat! I could mulch it and water it easily... and then in August plant my big garden! Sound like it will work? If I can shade them say 11am - 1 or2 pm...

    wow thanks everyone. I don't think I could shade them... unless I just plant a smaller plot. At this point it is more hobby gardening than food supply, so that is a feasible alternative. I was thinking of buying straw bales to spread on top of newspaper for mulch? re:water - I don't have...

    So Saturday my dad brought his lawnmower up and mowed my garden for me - pulling pea vines in 100* heat was just getting to me, besides, I figure maybe tilling them under will be good for the soil? I did pull all of my nasty tomato plants and put them in the trash. I left my pepper plants...

    So I planted a garden this year .... approx 40'x60'. My tomatoes strugged the whole season with blossom end rot (my guess). My Eggplants were little wimpy things. My corn had nice stalks but runty little ears of corn. My peas were my saving grace - I have declared pinkeyes my favorite things...
