    What are you canning now?

This canning was a family affair. DD did the food prep and canning, I transported finished jars with my flexible red gardning bucket. I labelled the first jar, DH labeled the rest of the jars and DD will be cooking with ALL of the 6 jars, now back in the 6 pint jar cardboard container and...

    Tomatoes for 2024

:gigI told DD's that they would need to can the tomatoes this week, Youngest DD bristled. So, I suggested that we freeze them,, and she "loudly bleated!!", which is like a scream, just not as scary. So her sister got a primer on canning, and did a dandy job!! (see canning thread...

Didn't know that any tractor uses regular gasoline. I was thrilled to be able to purchase my "God mower," riding mower, cheapest one that Kubota sold, Now worth $6K, gasoline. IF I could have afforded a subcompact, diesel, I would have done so bc I could use it in cold weather. But, it would...

I was SO lucky to find an inexpensive pump to remove old gasoline., $13, Harbor Freight. DH had purchased a really good one ($99) a few years back, But we use that one for diesel, and I don't want to mix them and mess up the tractor tank. BTW, we now OWN the tractor, last payment in October...

Funny, I am NOT craving super sweet things like glazed donuts or, my favorite, icing in the middle donuts. Eating vinegar slaw and canned peaches, sugar to be Sure, but a little bit healthier. Sorry, @ninnymary that your Haychia dehydration wasn't successful. We dehydrated tomatoes this Fall...

I am home healing from my knee replacement surgery, which took place Halloween. Family has been Wonderful!! With ripening tomatoes on the kitchen table eldest DD stepped in to can them. Your Weather, 2024

It is HOT and humid, feeling like August, GUSTY winds, burn ban, rain overnight and early tomorrow morning. Turned OFF the heat, opened up the windows, about to wash my sneakers in a load and I intend to tie them on the outside railing to dry. Should take aBOUT an hour.

    What are you canning now?

Start your broth on a Friday morning, finish on a Sunday afternoon, OR do it on a 3 day weekend. Women used to keep a fire and broth going in their fireplaces, and they would drop in bones and vegetables, and then ladle out as needed. THAT is where I got this idea. A better crockpot with a...

We were hoping NOT to crack the post. NOTE to self next Spring: Dig the other side of the post deeper, like 2 1/2 ft deep and 18 inches wide. We were lucky that didn't happen to an 8 ft tall, 8 inch diameter and 3 ft in the ground wooden fencepost didn't crack in 2. The compact tractor had NO...

Finished dehydrating. Last was the jalepanoes that a friend gave me. I put a plastic garbage bag on top of my tablecloth and moved them with salad tongs to a pint jar with a glass lid. Jar is in front of 3 1/2 quarts of tomatoes, and more will be canned before the tomatoes play out.

    What are you canning now?

Finished 3 1/2 more quarts of tomatoes, preceded by the 3 leftover green sweet peppers from the Salsa Party chili, followed by the jalepanoes a friend gave me. I put the trays of jalepanoes on top of a garbage bag so it wouldn't heat up my plastic tablecloth. Those glass Ball jars with the...
