the sad thing @digitS' is that even if you buy in season produce locally they still may be getting it from someplace else that had it in storage. a business we used to get apples and cider from got their apples from anyplace that had them cheaper... they also didn't make their own pies, etc...
i sure made more work for myself in picking those pods before they were dried down, but i guess i am learning what not to do for next time if this becomes an issue again. :) i hope it doesn't as i won't plan on planting that late next year...
i am making a little headway here or there in my...
you take a jug of water, put a few tea bags in it and then put it in the sun to brew. it probably makes very little difference in the end to do that but it was a thing... :)
the blueberries i had right before my bowl of cereal this morning were from Peru - they were as big as my thumb and i only needed a few to hold me over until my cereal was ready.
in recent weeks various places have been quarantined because of Covid (again!). a friend of ours lives in a wing of a care facility (they are not technically part of that care facility other than sharing a roof, hallway and a parking area) that was on quarantine for a few weeks but is now back...
as a tip for those who want to make something like that, after you are done painting it find a clear spray to go over it that includes UV protection and it will last much longer and keep the colors better. :)
Friday i was finally able to get the bare boards stained to match the rest of the house and restained the cover for the crawlspace entrance. they weren't too bad looking as they were but they'd needed to be done since we put them up and the crawlspace entrance was peeling some and Mom used some...
maybe put some tinfoil under them when they are drying down some flowers and check once a day and empty? or craft paper, but that may let moisture through too easy. just something to try... :) good luck! :)
did some more cleaning up of gardens today, just enough to get me some exercise but not too much. cleared out some dry bean pods shells, and other food scraps and garden debris i'd set aside to bury. glad to have more space back in my room and in the garage and the fridge.
some nice things came to me this past week and today too.
i steel and a sharpening stone for knives. both things i've wanted for a long time and was looking for. a friend was having a yard sale and hardly anything moved so he was going to donate it to the resell shops. i asked him if he had...
two nights of frosty weather, but the daytime temperatures are back into the 60sF and sunny. tomorrow we get warmer to 79F (warmest day of the week) and then back to mid 60F on Saturday with more sun until later in the evening we get chances of rain... then mixed weather next week with some...
it has been so long since we grew those (once :) ) that i can't recall what they looked like when they finished. i knew they weren't what Mom was hoping for so we didn't do much with them. sorry. :) but i'm glad someone who knew answered your question!
went out today to pick beans still not dried down but wanted to get them harvested before they got frosted. i had a full five gallon bucket for each of two rows in that garden and said it was enough and left the rest (two more rows) out there to fend for themselves against tonight's frost. i...
they seem to drop by the million here. don't they look like tiny hollyhock seeds? i've never harvested seeds from them but always see them on the stalks as they finish drying after flowering.
frost warnings last night so i have to get out today and check for any peppers as we have a colder forecast for tonight which may be a guaranteed frost. brrr!
in the meantime i'm going back to sleep...
beautiful! i call those little bits stickers and some beans have more of them than others. you might influence how many stickers you get if you notice when shelling that some beans come out cleaner than others, set those aside to replant and eat the rest or keep them as backups. eventually...
beautiful tree wish i had one here! neighbor has one up the road from us but i don't know if he picks them or has someone else picking them or what and really no time at the moment to even ask as i sure do not need any more projects. :)
sorry to hear about the crabapple trees dying. it may...
i think i mentioned this before but just in case you've not heard of it, women who have had babies will have some cells of the baby in their body.
