I had gotten this bean from a fellow in a trade who lived in Valpiano, Italy. The first time I grew it out it gave me enough different seed coats that I had realized it was an outcross. So what growers are getting each time they grow it out with different colored beans is they are seeing the...
When @flowerbug asked if there were any beans I would like to find I forgot about my profile on the yearbook. So I went and looked my profile up on the SSE online yearbook and found listed a bean called Black Soldier that I had back in the early 1980's. I think it is slightly larger than the...
Last year after the Central Michigan Seed Swap I stopped by Karen Goldens house in Highland, Michigan and picked up a 30 pound black garbage page of beans that were orignally at Susan Simcox's house and beans the Joseph had brought back into this country from overseas. I took them home and in...
Someone else grew Freckles and they found outcrosses. Typical mottled pattern I wasn't crazy about them so I am now eating them in this most recent pot of bean stew I made a couple of days ago. I guess if you grew it again I could just replace the same number of the older seeds with new ones...
Your Network package has not gone out yet. I'm waiting for Decoy 1's package so I can fill your request for Fat Man. I can also include Blue Spitball and you can return it in your brown paper wrapped Used Cassette Tapes package. ;)
I also saw a comment on the 2023 thread about you wanting to...
Hello everyone and hello 2024 ! We are now into our 12th season of this thread with great growers and contributors. Thank you all who have become part of our history and those who grace our pages with their current contributions. I think we all have so much enjoyment and pleasure in what we all...
Got a Canadian Network return package today in the mail from @capsicumguy. It was posted November 19th. I got a feeling Linden, New Jersey is pretty busy this time of the year. The package came from BC. This growers beans were for a 2022 grow out. I'm glad the grower kept the beans and tried...
@Artorius !
Wow what gorgeous beans. To me the sunrise looks great. Doesn't flowerbug have a bean similar to Grumbliai called Lemon Slice? Send me some of those Grumbliai with one of your Network return packages next year in '24. Love that Tinker's Fire too, and the name is neat.
If you haven't grown Nigel yet wait till you see how much it produces. Most often small seeded beans are very productive. They will often out produce a larger seeded bean.
I don't believe that I've seen this particular one about a Blue Jay cross. I think I saw something last year but don't remember who put that up somwhere on a website. I think the light colored seeds are a reverse. I 've never seen Blue Jay reverse with a light cream coloring in it's seeds...
I had also mentioned how similar Coree de Sang and Kiagara Mame looked to the young fellow in Austria that I had gotten the bean from. He has grown both beans and the following was his observation and experince in their cultivation.
Yes you are right. Coré de Sang and Kiagara Mame look alike...
@flowerbug,
Do you remember what the growth habit of Striped Bunch was when you grew it this year? I have it listed as a Bush snap but I'm not sure that is correct. BTW the beans you sent were beautiful. Thanks again.
New bean mail yesterday. There is a young fellow who graduated from high school last year in Austria and he is into all kinds of garden plants. He does like beans alot. Sometimes he will post beans on Facebook or send me photos of beans he has on the Facebook messenger. I had gotten into the...
Your soil could have caused a difference in color. I have beans that even the pattern changes when I change the location where the variety is grown. I have run into 5 different soil types within the county where I live. Some beans are more sensitive to change in soil type.
You got the dark bean from Andromeda there was probably one plant that was still not stable in your grow out. Just keep selecting the beans that look like Andromeda. I really thought from what I saw in my grow outs that the bean was completely stable. When they segregate like that and you that...
