    What was that noise?

I had an egg that exploded a few weeks ago while I was getting rid of all the eggs once incubation was finished. I always bury all the eggs that didn't hatch in the garden and use my shovel to smash it, that one egg sounded like a rocket. And boy that odor, I had to bury it quick. I bet all...

    Post Your Garden Failures Here!

baymule, If it makes you feel better, I still have cucumber seedlings. I had to re-plant seeds twice because of slugs that ate away the plant. I wonder if you could re-plant, if anything you'll have a late summer crop. As long as you can solve what the problem was, you can prevent it from...

Collard greens.. Any good recipes w/o ham?

I've cooked collard greens with bacon when I don't have ham hocks. I'm sure you could cook them without it and use onions like vfem mentioned and still taste great but missing that smoked flavor. Hope this helps!

    When to harvest Swiss Chard?

I harvest mine when the leaves are large enough about 12 inches. I have swiss chard that came back up from last year, had to harvest those before they went to seed. I even have volunteers that are sprouting everwhere. I like to sauteed it simply with olive oil and garlic. Hope this helps!

    How many do you

I definitely like to plant more seeds that I need to sprout in case some don't germinate. Its better to start out with extras then have to replant seeds and waste time.

Getting to Be HARVEST Time for Strawberries!!

I agree with you curlykate, Grocery store strawberries can't compete with fresh from the garden strawberries. What a difference in sweetness and flavor with the garden fresh. I would rather wait for a harvest of strawberries out in the garden then try buying some at the store.
