I belong to a group on facebook that lets members post pics of sites in the state that they find attractive. It is amazing how many Missouri homeowners have Summer Tanagers, Indigo Buntings, Blue Grosbeaks, Evening Grosbeaks, even a few Painted Buntings at their back yard feeders. I guess they...
My brave, silly and comforting dog Penny is having problems with her back leg/hip. We have an appointment for Wednesday but the vet is not allowing people in, they just come to the car and get the animal. We will have to tell them on the phone about her symptoms.
She began favoring her leg...
I had bought a spray called "Buggins" a couple years ago and was kind of put off by the smell. But desperate times call for desperate measures, so I sprayed myself down with it this morning before going out to work in the garden. Got no bug bites, or even buzzing around me. Hurrah!!.
Now I love...
Welcome from SE Missouri! What area of Tennessee? Such a beautiful state. My brother and sister and their families all live in Nashville.
Even we who would normally consider ourselves "proficient" seem to be finding gardening throws more curve balls at us than it used to. So don't feel too bad...
The gnats here are out all day long. I just took the dog out for a walk, sprayed myself down good with deep woods off, sprayed it into my hand and wiped my face and ears down, The gnats still buzzed around, tried to get in my ears and nose. At least I don't think I got any bites this time, so...
Any one else being assaulted by buffalo gnats this spring? We got them earlier this week. They are bothering the chickens pretty bad. I guess if the gnats remain I will set the fan up in the chicken yard so the birds can sit in front of a strong breeze. Their bites make big painful welts on me...
@MinnesotaGardening , I agree with your stated worry about all the chicks that were bought this spring. Hopefully, the outcome will be that there are a lot of half-grown pullets for sale soon.
You mentioning the small dairies that are going out of business....I wish more farmers would think...
Keep in mind that these roses have been grown in a greenhouse and aren't as hardy...yet...as they can be later after they have acclimated to your area.
Make sure you take the plastic off of them right way. Check they don't get overwatered while in a foil pot cover.
These little potted roses...
It's been nearly a month since Carol Dee asked if we are doing OK. Today I feel more apprehensive than usual, just a general anxiety, which is pretty rare for me.
Actually, my barely-teen grand daughter announced this week that she feels like she is really a boy, inside. She would like to be...
Yes, even things like having to search many stores to get the groceries or meds you need becomes difficult and costs money (gas). Home care nurses/housekeepers may not be making their rounds. Lots of little inconveniences become overwhelming if you are short on resources and stamina.
Mine do, but they are pretty lazy. And they would rather go up into the front yard and play "chicken" with the cars speeding by. Darn teenage chickens. :old
Just now as I was cleaning up the kitchen I glanced at the feeder and saw a hummingbird at the feeder! He stayed and drank a long time. Guess he was tired and hungry.
Woot! Ask and ye shall receive!
Now, where's that guberment check?
I have been sewing, worked a big jig saw puzzle, watched a few things on TV that I normally haven't watched before, like the FBI and NCIS shows. The garden is too wet to do much. Weather has been up and down, wet and windy. My plants I started indoors are asking to be put outside, but they will...
In SE Missouri, it's cool, cloudy and right now in between storms. We had rain after midnight and expect more this evening. High winds, all the rain, lightening, etc.
We had a few really nice days earlier in the week. I have only gotten onions, kale and broccoli out in the garden. Not a lot of...
I have been making masks for anyone who wants them, basically, but the intent was to send them with my ex-daughter in law to the hospital where she is a nurse, in the ER, no less.
I have found that you can split the wide elastic if that's all you have. The instructions I got called for 1/8"...
