    Tomatoes for 2023

I have a tomato press. You are making me feel bad. All I do is remove both. I am amazed how bitter the skin and seeds are vs the pulp of the big red berries.

    Tomatoes for 2023

Only the indeterminants are still chugging along out there. I am kinda glad I can see my kitchen table again. I got a tomato press and have grooved up to squeezing just enough for dinner. Tonight was Celebrity lasagna. I have learned to intercept the wife by actually listening to her when she...

    Tomatoes for 2023

Wow this post demonstrates why the internet confuses. If we do not have tomatoes in the ground by mid April the coming heat in July makes them shut down, no different than cold really in terms of production.

What weird food did you eat as a kid?

You should try the sugar ants. Back in my school daze the marketing professor proved pepsi was more popular because of the sugar. ;)

What weird food did you eat as a kid?

Alaskan ice cream (also known as Alaskan Indian ice cream, Inuit ice cream, Indian ice cream or Native ice cream, and Inuit-Yupik varieties of which are known as akutaq or akutuq) is a dessert made by Alaskan Athabaskans and other Alaska Natives. It is traditionally made of whipped fat or tallow...

What are You Eating from the Garden?

I have been making small batches of tomato sauce as they come. The san marzano are basically done but the celebrity are filling the kitchen table. As they push past freshly ripe into very ripe I have been cooking them. I made 1.5 gallons tonight. And about a gallon of sweet pickles from the...

Sad, and it is that time of year with heat and humidity where we risk more that we know digging in the dirt. https://www.foxnews.com/health/wisconsin-woman-dead-after-contracting-rare-fungus-found-soil

What Did You Do In The Garden?

The san marzanoes are about halfway done. I am kinda glad. I think I find them best if they come from Italy and not Alabama. But I have been bringing in 5 gallon buckets and now the work begins. Cucumbers, eggplants, squash of course are all producing. I am glad I did not plant okra. Picking...

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/21/us-approves-sale-of-cell-cultured-chicken-to-two-start-ups.html There is no animal. I cannot fathom this. Old brain I guess. Is this basically gonna be a bathtub full of something that looks like baloney?

What are You Eating from the Garden?

I need a scoop and stuff recipe fast or she tosses the big ones. Thank you in advance! These are new Burpee hybrids. The plants remind me of a courgette. I kinda like the smooth skins of the old school yellow squash. Anyway they have really soft skin though they do not look it and their seed...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

3 inches of rain so not much. I trellised some cukes that are getting wild. I see my purchased tomatoes came with a new fungus. Scissor city. At least they are determinate and will be gone soon. I cannot see some onion for the weeds. Scissor city. The squash are going crazy and some...

    Potting Benches

It is a good idea. My version is where I thought about an opening with multiple interchangable forms to which I can attach hardware cloth of different sizes. In fact it could be considered a compost screen system if it is wide enough to shovel compost up and then screen it into bags or bins. I...

    Potting Benches

I am planning on this one residing outdoors somewhere. I like the wheels though. And handles other end for transport. I fear no oddball wheelbarrow.

    Potting Benches

I am gathering ideas for an outdoor potting bench. It will have a small roof I think. You may even call it a gardening bench as some activity will include 15 gallon containers. Anyway, if I promise not to paint it in camouflage colors or neon pink, can I elicit a few functional suggestions from...
