Heirlooms vs hybrids vs protected genetics

Neither the white or green that I mentioned are mild. But the white doesn't have the traditional tomato flavor, either. The green I mentioned tastes identical to a red to me. But everyone has different tastes!

Heirlooms vs hybrids vs protected genetics

haha Well this sounds like a challenge. 😆 I believe that everyone has different tastes when it comes to tomatoes. But, for my preferences: If you want a meaty, large tomato, I'd highly recommend Hungarian Heart. It is so multipurpose and delicious. Another beefy favorite is German pink...

Heirlooms vs hybrids vs protected genetics

It really depends on what crop I am growing. I love heirloom tomatoes because I have found some varieties that I absolutely love the flavor of and I can save the seed. Maybe open-pollinated is a better description of what I grow, as they aren't all old varieties. I'm not opposed to growing...

    Grafting Tomatoes

Yea, I dont plan to pursue such a crazy graft as datura. And disease resistance is what I'm going for with this grafting. I have some issues with spots/dropping of tomato foliage as the season progresses, and sometimes spots on the fruit.

    Grafting Tomatoes

Because I love my heirlooms! :love My loaded pantry and freezer are testament to the fact that I don't need more tomatoes, but I love to experiment and see what could be. It seems like a fairly straightforward process. (Although, I may completely fail. But even if I do, so what, it wouldnt...

    Grafting Tomatoes

Don't worry..I am aware of the potential problems associated with that graft. However, hypothetically, shouldn't grafted plant material maintain all of its own traits?

    Grafting Tomatoes

Grafting trees seems intimidating to me! I have read up about it a bit, and it is basically decapitating the whole tomato plant fairly low on the stem and clipping on the decapitated head of another tomato plant (the one you want fruit from). The plants cant be buried too deep, though...

    Grafting Tomatoes

This spring I will be trying grafting tomatoes. I've never done it before and have a few questions. Also, if you have done it before and have some advice, I'm all ears. I usually get a surplus of a huge variety of wonderful tomatoes, but am very curious to see what kind of difference having a...

    What Seeds are You Saving?

Yea, I knew how you were connecting that, but I don't know the origins of that song. I've only heard it in Fiddler on the Roof. 😊

    What Seeds are You Saving?

All I can think of is Fiddler on the Roof. I'm sure it has more context than that. But even if it doesn't...fantastic movie!
