Dog crate in my bedroom. I like to be able to hear if there is a problem. I read somewhere long ago, that having the dog in the bedroom counts as "quality time" spent, even though you are sleeping. Not sure how true that is- but it works for me.
Composting and mulching seem to be the answer. It will certainly be an interesting learning experience! The one thing I hate about gardening here, is the difficulty in digging a hole. Shouldn't be a problem in sand! Wondering if it will be worth it to bring the tractor.
If you are not overly interested in collecting honey you might want to look into the top bar hive. We joined a bee group at Cornell Cooperative Extension before we started beekeeping. Lots of helpful, experienced folks to share information with.
That suit is incredible! Certainly museum quality. I would guess in the 5000.00 range. Unless, of course, they know who made it and /or who wore it. That could add to the value considerably. Men do not save clothes the way women do, it seems. Much less men's vintage around. A lot of women...
I water a similar plant once or twice a winter and put it outside for the summer. My daughter tied an orchid to one of her palms- the darn thing was just about dead. Came right back! The roots grab right on to the trunk. She was able to remove the tie in short order. Very cool!
Nyboy, that is a tough one... You know, new equipment really isn't that expensive. Presuming you would want only one or two hives. I personally wouldn't risk it. You would feel bad if your bees died for a "bargain".
Is the whole coat smelly, or just under the arms? The leather part should be easy enough to freshen up, but if it is in the lining, that could be a permanent problem. Believe it or not, I have made the most money selling vintage from the 1980's. At my age, the 80's feel like they were...
Being a vintage clothing dealer for 20 years, I can feel your pain! Letting something hang outside in the sunshine for a few days, can usually make a difference. I am more often dealing with "moldy" smells, not animal- but fresh air can make a huge difference. If you try the soap and water...
Journey, I am very excited about the prospect of all the fruit I can grow! Very interesting about the Countryside article. I will have to see if I can find that online. It really is a whole other world down there- positively tropical!
Cat, I have absolutely no interest in a gated community or an HOA. Not a big fan of rules, in general! Beekissed, we are bee keepers here in NY. Dh is researching keeping bees in Florida. Sure we will continue that endeavor. Debbie, my daughter is busy growing her business- so she probably...
The thing that really took some attitude adjustment, is when the realtor calls one acre, a farm and tells you to bring your horses!! Having a horse on one acre in NYS, is a joke!! I wouldn't attempt large animals on that tiny plot of land- but I definitely want chickens. I will need a source...
