Lower leaves yellow on newly planted tomatoes

Fair warning, we got TONS of rain and my garden flooded. All the bottoms of my tomatoes leaves turned yellow. So I plucked a bunch on Tuesday. Yesterday I went out after yet another storm with winds and down pours. My tomatoes all have early blight. (No all of them just one group where it...

    what a great visit

I am glad you got some company with family! It's been almost 17 years since I've seen any of my family on my dad's side. They have NO interest in visiting and I'm not driving to CT to deal with those schmucks!

    Stephen Colbert on the attack!

I watched a few episodes and he make some Monsanto comments and jokes on one of them. Then I heard of another smack down show attacking them. I've noticed about 6 references against them on his facebook page and from his shows from the last week. Pretty funny...

Enjoy the clover!!! I keep ours around the grapes as it really seems to help them grow happy. Not mention that it keeps my yard heavy with honey bees who love them. Then... yes there is more greatness to clover... I pick the flower heads and seep to make a clover tea I turn into jelly!!! It...

Does anybody use floating row covers?

I use row covers to protect from certain insects, and to get a little extended time on more fragile plans if they call for an early frost and I don't want to loss the last of my lettuce or ripen a few remaining peppers late fall/ early winter. I find them best for keeping squash bugs, cucumber...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

I have had a friend ACTUALLY come around and help me lately. I'm still in pain from the chest thing, I'm not recovering well or fast at all. :( So it is sooooooooo good to have someone do some of the bending and pulling for me. We were able to move some struggling tomatoes, peppers and unwanted...

Good idea Mary, I'm going to pick the rest of my kale soon and maybe we'll just do that. Zoe absolutely loved me adding kale to the chicken pot pie I made the other night. DELICIOUS!!!

    Strawberries

Mine are just finishing up their first multi-week round. I'm only getting a couple handfuls a day now. 2 weeks ago I was getting 4 cups + a day. In July I'll get quite a few handfuls more, then another bunch for a few weeks in September. I prefer these 100 to 1 for taste, they have a strong...

    swiss chard jelly

No way to know without trying it I guess! I would probably try a swiss chard pesto, and then freeze it for later use. I do that with extra spinach, basil and mixed greens. :)

one chicken slept outside last night

Those sneaky butts! I had a chicken do it once, and she did not come home in the morning. We only ever found a pile of white feathers near the woods that evening. I never asked my daughter to go out and shut the coop door for me again. Then again, we don't free range any longer either.

    Revamped Hanging Baskets

These are doing ok right now, not absolutely gorgeous by any means... however, these are spring to early summer bloomers and I'd have to replace them sometime this month with something that will go summer to fall. I just really liked the purple. I am going to bring them down and set them in a...

It all started with a stroll...

Well I hope the mama isn't feral. If she won't even deal with you, there are feral rescues who fix them and then find them homes as barn cats. Or at least there are some around where I live. Best of luck to you! :)
