It is ain’t it. I’m pretty sad for waiting so long to plant them. I got them in a trade way back when. Years & Years ago. The package said “erect set lady pea.” I wasn’t able to find the exact name online. I did see Lady Peas though, so maybe the same.
I went through a collection stage where I...
@annette some of my beans are getting old. Sigh..... I did the paper towel trick like you showed me a few years ago just to check a few varieties. My Soldier beans, Jacob Cattle, Rattlesnake, Mayflower, and Lady Peas were a no go. I did get one mountaineer to sprout. I need to check a few more...
@Zeedman
Thanks for the history, I’ve always thought it was interesting looking.
Yes, Flip Tx is who I got my seeds from way back in the day. He was on gardenweb when all us us used to talk beans/cowpeas.
I would love to give it a try.
One more interesting do hickory. Sandhill is offering 40...
Ok Beaners, can ya help me?
While rummaging around my ice chest of seeds, I came across a packet of beans that I bought from Baker Creek. I think it’s for year 2008. The packet is marked “ELVIE”
I have googled and I haven’t come up with anything. Has anyone grown it?
Bush? Pole?
Anyone?
HELLO SWEETY!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy to hear from you! I have missed you sooooo much! Are you growing anything? I did a couple of tomatoes and squash. I might do a few more things. I’ve got a few beans in paper towels like you showed me a few years back. Just to check if they are still viable.
George gave me my seeds too, it was about the same time you got yours. I talk to him occasionally, he’s a wealth of knowledge. He forgot more about beans than I’ll ever know. Hahaaa.
I wonder how @aftermidnight is doing these days? I miss our bean escapades!
Ralph’s Italian Heirloom was quite the adventure. Her lone bean turned out to be a wax bean that wasn’t what we were searching for. My seeds were dead, others had seeds that were dead. Victory seed company had some, but...
@Zeedman
Hey buddy, are you growing any runner beans this year? I’m asking because I’ve got a project for you if you aren’t. I need someone to make a grow out for me. I’ve only got three beans and it doesn’t do well in my area, so I hate to take a chance. It’s a bean from Poland that...
Salutations friends. I’ve a quick question. I have a jar of cowpeas from 2011, they are labeled Texas Longhorn. I remember growing them, but they sure appear similar to Red Ripper. I want to grow them out to update my seeds, but I‘d really hate to label something under two different names. Has...
@flowerbug and @Zeedman
Hey Zeedman, I sure miss the old gang and our discussions on beans over the years. On my last good grow out, I refreshed my Sierra Madre seed that you gave me years ago. I have a good amount in a glass jar and they are in the freezer for the future. I love them cooked...
