For the past couple of weeks, Cherokee has wanted to have this old Pine Branch off the woodpile.
I wouldn't let him play with it because it was so big. But, when I was busy doing something else,
He managed to get the stick pulled out of the woodpile.
And about three circles around the...
It rained here last night, so this morning was cool and cloudy. We had a great morning at the park!
This is my view on our walks...
His tail is one of his best features!
He loves to just lay in the grass and watch the world go by.
But then... what does he see....?
His friend Laramie...
I know, I know!... So far... He has played keep away only outside, and only twice with things he is REALLY not suppose to have. Both times, I left the laundry room door open, he got a sock one time and a little mesh bag for washing delicates the other time. The sock he dropped when I said drop...
Since it is so hot here, Cherokee plays outside after the sun goes down at night. The temperature is still in the 90's here.
But at least the sun is not beating on you!
Last night he found an old gallon milk jug I had used for rooting some vines. I planted the vines in a pot, and turned...
Our yard is a fairly large backyard, not acres for sure. My grandparents had Great Pyrenees on a 3/4 acre lot. But the dog was in a much smaller area most of the time.
Cherokee... is a "house dog" it is too hot here in the summer for him to be anywhere but inside. We go for long walks, and...
I keep a wide bristle brush by the back door to take off the pine needles, leaves and dirt that are in his coat before he comes in the house! His puppy coat was worse for things sticking to it!
Now with the courser guard hairs, I can easily remove most things by just a brush off with my hand...
Yes he did change a lot that month. He is not shedding at all right now. Probably next Spring, he will lose a lot of hair. I brush him at least once a day. I am saving his hair to make yarn. So far I have a brown paper grocery bag full of combings.
Here are some updated comparison photos
And here he is in his "Watch Puppy" mode. He got wider this month!
He now weighs 104.2 lbs and is 29.5 inches at the shoulder!
One of the first things Cherokee brought home from a walk was a soda bottle. He played with it for blocks, and refused to let it go, so we brought it home with us. He LOVED it!! Now it is pretty flat.
Cherokee has some favorite outdoor toys that help him get his "wiggles" out.
One is an old Mayonnaise jar that fits perfectly over his nose!
You can see the way the hair is parted on his tail, that the skin on the entire length of his tail is black.
He bats it with his foot like he is...
Depending on the breed, many times you can tell by the "look" of the dog. Females are usually lighter and smaller than males in most breeds. For the Great Pyrenees, it is usually easy to see the difference in males and females. Here is a link that shows the differences for this breed...
Cherokee turned 8 months old on Friday 6 /26/15
He is 28.5 inches at the shoulder (grew one inch from last month)
And is 98.6 lbs (gained 4lbs)
He has changed a lot this month, losing his "puppy face"!! Darn!!
He got wider and his hair is getting longer now, but not much undercoat, since it...
Yep! Now he is looking like a big dog. The only way you can tell he is still a puppy is by the way he jumps and plays, and trips on his own feet still!
When I last took Cherokee in for a weight check... also at 7 months... he was 94.6lbs!! He was 27.5 inches tall at the shoulder.
I know he has grown "wider" in the ribs and hips, I have to measure him on the 26th of this month to get his height and weight for his 8 month size.
Here he is...
Hmmm, I have never had him jump up on anyone. I had to "pose" him for those photos. He is not a "jump up" kind of fellow.
Pyrenees are rather reserved when meeting strangers. Or even people they know, he is not overtly affectionate. He just stands still around little kids. There is no reason...
