Several members have brought up oregano so I have to get my two cents in. I really like Mexican oregano which has a distinctive taste that is especially suited for Mexican dishes. The flavor of dried leaves lasts longer than Greek oregano in storage.
Oddly it isn't really an oregano at all but...
I no longer have a place to raise vegetables and probably wouldn't be physically able. I can still get down but it's Hell to get back up, but I have a strong urge to grow something. Even a weed would be welcome at this point. :(
I was thinking of an elevated bed; sort of a table with sides that...
When speaking of curries you have to remember that there are two distinctive types. Curries from places like Thailand and Vietnam or that vicinity get their heat from chili peppers and Indian curry depends on ginger, turmeric and other related root plants.
I should explain that I thought up the story when someone ordered a book I had listed and I couldn't find it anywhere I looked. I used the name Vunderbar there. It used to be a great site for swapping books but when they started adding fees it was cheaper to buy the books from Amazon so I...
I had a scare a few weeks ago when I noticed a lump in my right breast. When I had a mammogram the results showed no cancer (TG) but it seems I have had a shift in hormones and I'm now growing boobs. I checked on the Mayo Clinic site and the condition is apparently not as uncommon as you might...
Thanks all for your welcome. The thing I miss most about my garden is the heirloom vegetables I grew there; especially the tomatoes. The ones on our menu are store bought and that means GMO. Those things taste like cardboard. It's hard to tell whether you are eating tomatoes or the box they came...
I don't know how many members are still here who remember me but I'm still here. Unfortunately no longer gardening.
After several strokes and a brain bleed I had to give up living alone and sell the house along with the garden. I'm now in a retirement facility here in the desert. Atria in Palm...
In case anyone still remembers me. I've had a couple of strokes and a rain bleed so it's hard for me to post but I still drop by now and then to see what you are all up to. I'm presently living at Atria ( a retiremrnt home) n Palm Desert, the driest part of California so gardening would be...
Pomegranates do not take kindly to Wintering over in the house. They are a sub-tropical and they need full sun and lots of it. The best place to Winter them is a heated greenhouse but few of us have one of those.
My Spanish lavender was always a bee magnet but I replanted it now that the drought is over and nary a bee has shown up so far. There is also some burnet and borage that came up from seed with the same lack of interest from the bees. Maybe four years of drought did them in.
Many plants can not only survive a burn but thrive on it. In the coastal chapparal part of Southern California there are quite a few plants with seeds that will not sprout till they are burned. Proves that brush fires here are not always caused by man.
The best thing about golden milk is even the youngest kids like it. YouTube has an excellent video on how to make it. I like to replace the honey with organic maple syrup.
Note that it also says "Access to" the outdoors. When chickens are raised in broiler houses they become paranoid and most will not go outside even if the door is open, but that fulfills the requirement and even if they never set foot outside they are considered free range.
I would recommend the biggest pot you can handle. Wide is more important than deep. Instead of trying to store the whole pot in winter I would just store a healthy clump of rhizomes in damp peat or peaty potting soil.Treat them like gladiolas and they should Winter over fine in a cool dark place.
