I must have misplaced mine. Let's see, where was the last place I used it? Oh I think I used it as a kayak anchor last year.

    Questions About Rabbits

Allow me to put in my two cents. Rabbits, as most herbivores, are poop machines. The good thing about rabbit manure is that the nitrogen releases slowly so there is little danger of burning your plants. The pellets are usually easy to vacuum up if you let them dry a bit. Rabbits tend to deposit...

Best Tasting Tomato For Sandwich ?

Mortgage lifter is a nice meaty tomato but it's slow developing. The biggest trouble is the huge vines. They can eat up half your garden if you let them.

Best Tasting Tomato For Sandwich ?

I probably have a slightly different approach than you. I put a little EVOO on the tomato along with some salt and pepper. When the tomato slice is half done I put on the cheese and finish toasting till the cheese starts to brown.

Best Tasting Tomato For Sandwich ?

Peoples tastes differ. Personally I don't like a tomato that is too sweet. I prefer them slightly on the acid side.

    Moss on the Rocks

The Japanese were taught never to express any emotion openly. Doing so was to leave oneself open to an enemy. There is an old saying in Japan, "When one sets one foot outside their house they are surrounded by enemies".

    Moss on the Rocks

Looks more like a lichen. OOpsie. I see Steve already identified it. Thanks for the Japanese picture. I saw that expresionless look on the Japanese (especially the women) at the beginning of the Japanese occupation. By the time we freed them completely that had already begun to change by our...

    Photos of Your Manure Makers

Ten rabbits and Because of the drought I haven't had a garden in two years. Right now I'm reclaiming it from the weeds. Lord knows I'll have enough manure for it. The only place I've been using it is in my compost.

    Potatoes....all those varieties...

If you want to try something new let some of your potatoes go to seed and plant the seeds. They produce a berry that looks like a nightshade berry. The first year the potatoes will be too small to use. You have to plant them and harvest the following year. Many new varieties came about that way...

Finally figured out my Soil problems

Doing fine. Thanks for asking. I've been kind of busy now that our drought seems to have finally broken. Believe it or not the soil is too wet to work right now. I've been just letting the garden go to weeds for two years outside of a few salad patches so I have a big mess to clear up. I think...

Finally figured out my Soil problems

If you have alkaline soil use gypsum instead of lime. You still get the calcium but it contains sulfer which the soil turns into acid.

Finally figured out my Soil problems

Been there, done that when I added ashes from a BBQ to my compost. I guess it wasn't all burned out. The smoke drifted over the rabbit cages and they wouldn't come out of the shelter boxes for two days.

    On Mumbling

I usually start all phone conversations with, "I have a hearing problem so please don't get irritated if I ask you to repeat yourself". Almost everyone is quite understanding. Hearing aids are almost useless to me. They cost an arm and a leg, never last for more than a few months and the...

    Garden humor thread..

A city man moved to a farm and to be neighborly a local farmer gave him a dozen fertile eggs to hatch. A few weeks later the farmer met him in town and asked how he did with the eggs. "None of them hatched" "Ï don't understand that. I know those eggs were good" The city man said, "Maybe I...

    WR's Stuffed Jalapenos

I've always dusted mine with flour then dipped in egg and coated them with panko before deep frying. You have to dust them with the flour or the egg won't stick to the jalapeno skin. Never tried the bacon but it sounds good. I fill some with cream cheese and some with grated cheddar. I leave the...
