    Looking for them with a flashlight at night doesn't work too well either. As soon as the light hits them they curl up and drop to the ground and since they blend in with soil they are hard to spot even if they are large.

    Be careful with Spinosad. It's an excellent insect killer but it kills the predators along with the pests and the pests recover faster than the predators do. It's best used only on hot spots, not as a general garden spray.

    Sabadilla dust used to be the answer for hard to kill insects, It was made from ground up sabbadilla lilly seeds but they overharvested and had to close down the market to save the survivors so it's no longer available. It never was cheap because it was hand harvested in the wild.
