    El nino, weird or what?

It is on a 6" square plywood panel. There is a little gallery that had a fundraiser. Anyone could come in and take up to 3 plywood panels and create any kind of artwork on them. All would be sold for $45 (artists got $20 of that). I made 2, and DH got in on it and made one also. All three...

    El nino, weird or what?

I made it out of our eggshells (the black is paint).

    El nino, weird or what?

Okay, I joined the crowd (althought I kept with the chicken theme).

    El nino, weird or what?

Sounds like quite a mess @moxies_chickienuggets . One winter we had a lot of snow, and then 50's and a lot of rain in January. I went out to the hoop coop to find the chickens wading in 8 inches of water! I filled the coop with all kinds of pallets, plywood on tires, anything to create dry...

    Winter Greens

I just covered my greens in the hoop house yesterday. We're supposed to get single digits Monday night and I'm hoping to keep them alive. It is mostly "coarse" greens: kale, over-grown arugula, and some kind of mild mustard (it was in a mix), but I am enjoying them. Last year the rodents had...

    El nino, weird or what?

I think our freakish weather is coming to an end here. It should be sunny and in the 40's on Christmas Day, but Monday's forecast is in the 20's with 11 degrees overnight. Snow likely on Tuesday. Maybe we will escape some kind of insect explosion come spring.

    El nino, weird or what?

This weekend the ground was frozen hard and we had some snow squalls, but temperatures are going to be coming up all week. I would like the warmer temperatures to last until New Year's Eve, because this year we are celebrating outdoors. We are going to Eastport to watch the maple leaf and...

    Coffee Substitutes

I don't like tea in bags either! And I don't like flavored teas, only teas with flavor. Someone once gave me a sample from David's Teas, and it had artificial cake flavor in it! :sick

    BARN! and NEW PORCH!

Not here. Our main purpose: to keep bugs out! Late May, early June, the black flies show up in droves. They nibble your ears, and fly into your eyes, and often send us running from the garden during the early planting season. It will be nice to sit out in the pleasant weather and enjoy my...

    Finally...Some Snow! :)

Still strange and snowless here. Seasonably cold tomorrow, but then back to showers and 40's this week. The Irises are trying to come up!

    BARN! and NEW PORCH!

I love that you will have a sewing nook on the porch, @baymule ! I also like seeing the painted wicker furniture @Beekissed . It really is like a blank canvas. We have no idea what kind of furniture we will put out there or how we will arrange things. I need to look at lots of porch photos...

    BARN! and NEW PORCH!

Wow! I love your porch! We are in mid-porch build here too. DH is building it alone, so I must be patient. It has a roof now, with skylights, because we live in a cold climate. When the concrete guys came and lifted our house to pour a basement (we were on posts), they poured a slab for our...

    Math Question About Age

I had this same counting problem when incubating eggs. I didn't know there was a day "zero". They still hatched fine, just a day late. At least now, @Nyboy , you can say you are playing with a full deck.

    Teachers' pay

Our pay scale tops out just over $50,000. Teaching has changed a lot. Most kids have experienced violence and trauma. Sometimes one parent is in jail, sometimes both. Some live in the local homeless shelter. Behaviors are out of control and class sizes get bigger all the time. I would much...

    Hurting

Yikes! Those round bales of hay weigh a ton! Glad you were not hurt any worse. I hope surgery can help you out. I'm sure it must be frustrating not being able to get anything done, although memorizing all those owner's manuals should come in handy someday. Wishing you a quick recovery!

    It's a New Year!

That Persian basil looks interesting. I guess it is not really true basil. A quick search show the name in Farsi is reyhan. I'd like to try it!
