    The Great 2018 Northeaster(s)

It is still snowing here. Supposed to end out with 16" or so. School is canceled (again), although we have parent teacher conferences tonight. They promise to have the parking lot cleared by 2 p.m. I'm glad the temperatures are relatively warm, and it sure is pretty out there!

    The Great 2018 Northeaster(s)

14" forecast here, too. I don't mind that it is a Tuesday, as those classes are so poorly behaved. And it is a particularly busy day, with bus duty at the end, and we are staying into the evening on Wednesday and Thursday for conferences. It will give me a chance to rest up. I guess I am...

Have chicken ~ do you agree with this ```

I enjoy getting fresh eggs, and I guess I'd have to say my chickens are pets, because I have a few that are 8 years old, which is not efficient. I think the mistake some people make with chickens is treating them like a cuddly pet and handling them and forgetting to wash their hands afterwards...

    The Great 2018 Northeaster(s)

DH went to Home Depot yesterday to buy white paint for a project here. He told the cashier he was buying it as camouflage for today's storm ;)

    The Great 2018 Northeaster(s)

It's looking like 14 inches this time, if the forecast is correct. I don't think the snow will stick around long though. While there is snow in the woods, the fields are all breaking out and all of our pathways are bare. It has been an early spring here!

    a rumor going round ```

The massive Nor'easter didn't really come here. A little rain and some wind. It has felt like spring here for so long that people are going to be angry when/if winter ever returns!

How Often Does This Happen To You ?

Glad you found them. This is the story of my life. I want to be one of those organized people, but only seem to pull it off at work (and even then, not very well). I once got pulled over and avoided a ticket by wearing down the poor officer. I couldn't find my insurance card, which had just...

    Flu

I get the flu shot each year. Some years are better matches than others. I was out of work all last week (first time ever!), but my doctor wasn't convinced it was the flu. It was a bad virus though, and prolonged by the fact that I developed a secondary sinus infection and needed an...

    First time blueberry grower... advice?

I've been having recent success with high bush blueberries here in Maine, although I've read that it is pushing the limits for their zone. It took a while before I got any fruit, because I did not acidify the soil at first, and never kept them weeded. Now they are getting big enough that I...

Who is starting seeds indoors this season?

Yikes, I feel so far behind. I will start the onions in February, but I haven't even ordered my seeds yet this year. Maybe I will get to it this weekend. I start onion seeds in a kitchen top sprouter and then transplant to soil. I used to use an old waterbed heater under other seeds. Now...

    What Southerners are Missing

I didn't realize so many other people are offended by strong scents. The worst for me is going for a walk or slow jog in the neighborhood, and encountering the dryer sheet exhaust. I hold my breath and pick up the pace! The other time it bothers me is when I enter the very tiny bathroom at...

    Pressure canner recommendations?

We like our All American pressure cooker #921. DH does all the canning, so I don't know much about it, but he says it doesn't corrode because it is dry. And then added, when you want something to last, you use metal, not rubber.

Bracing for the "bomb cyclone" today. Winter keeps getting stranger here.....

    Weather where you are.

I know that the weather service cannot forecast for every microclimate, but it drives me crazy that no predictions match the actual temperatures. Last night they predicted -18, and then late in the evening, switched it to -15. Actual temperature was -28. I had not used my car for 5 days, and...

    Weather where you are.

-31.9 this morning, our lowest in years. And it came on the heels of -30, -27, and -24.9, all in a row. Highs of 4. I'm hoping the chickens can hold on one more day. A slight warm up is coming Wednesday.

    Another Countdown begins....

I don't believe I have been to Richmond @digitS' , although I may have passed close to there once when driving home from Montreal. Quebec is pretty close by. We went to Notre Dame de Bois, only a 2 1/2 hour drive from here. Not all the roads are great, but it was very scenic.

    Another Countdown begins....

This cold snap is brutal. Thursday night -30, Friday night -27, last night -24.9. Day time highs in single digits. I guess we are supposed to get a brief respite on Wednesday and Thursday, before colder air moves in! This is not really normal here. We do get -30, but it is normally just one...

    Another Countdown begins....

We have single digit highs all week, -5 to -20 at night! And strangely, I am taking a brief 2 night vacation just a couple hours from here, where this week it never gets above zero. We are cross-country skiing with face masks, goggles, rabbit fur hat, hand and foot warmers, etc. Maybe I'll...

What Do You Add To Coffee ?

I love my morning cup of coffee. No sweetener or flavors, but I hate it without my half and half. I tried to switch to lowfat milk, but just did not enjoy it. After noon, I switch to tea.
