I don't like it either. It is finally starting to be light when I get up. I'd prefer to keep my morning light, when I'm out tending the chickens before work.
DH just went through this with a nice pair of pruners he purchased. They went missing for about a year before he broke down and bought another pair. He searched everywhere.
This year, he bought another pair. The old pair showed up a couple days later, in a knap sack deep in the closet.
I've been fighting a losing battle with rats here for quite some time.
I might try wrapping the bottom of the trunk in hardware cloth, and then try fashioning some kind of metal bell-shaped barrier right above it (like what people use to keep squirrels from climbing the bird feeder pole). I'm...
Not sure if any records were booked here, but it was 57 yesterday. I went cross-country skiing without a jacket.
In fact, all week it has been in the 40's and 50's. I'm not fond of the cold winter weather, but still, this whole climate change thing is a little freaky. It seems to be throwing...
When I got married the school staff wanted to go in on a gift and asked what we needed. After living without running water for six years, we had just had a well drilled. We asked for a gift certificate to the local plumbing store so we could buy a toilet! Best wedding gift ever.
I love salad! But I have mine for lunch, and only on days that I am not hauling lunch to work.
DH does not like salad, so I don't bother at dinner time. He's usually the one cooking, too, since he is retired.
When I am home, we make our own lunches. I have my salad (along with a bunch of...
The bird's-eye garden photos must all be on the "real" computer, but DH took this snow view yesterday. He was not exactly in the belvedere, but on the roof next to it clearing off solar panels. I was snowshoeing over to the hoop coop to clear off the front and give the chickens some solar...
We don't have a walkway or railing around ours. I know I have plenty of photos from up there. I'll try to find one after work.
The view is not great in terms of distant mountains or horizon (too many trees). It is more like a bird's eye view of the garden and field.
@Nyboy, yes, it is a belvedere. We don't often climb the ladder to go up there, although the view is nice.
In the winter, it is closed off. In the summer, it serves as air conditioning. We open all the windows (up there, for the summer, and the rest of the house, just at night). It...
It is now dark and still snowing lightly. We think we got 30". Skiing in the woods was impossible, as we sunk up to our hips. We did go for a short ski on the road. I hope our new porch roof is strong!
Crazy week!
6" Tuesday, 7" Thursday, 8" Saturday, in the midst of the 16" that is supposed to fall today, and another 10" coming Wednesday!
I need to wade out and find the chickens. Some are in the structure in the top photo, others are in the far right hoop.
After lots of storms that ended in...
Political climate aside, there is something about this time of year....
The kids at school are acting all crazy, and every year I start to think, "why am I doing this again?"
A fellow teacher once gave me good advice:
Never make a life-changing decision in February. It stuck with me and I find...
-14 this morning. I've put on the two pair of wool socks for the early morning chicken chores. This winter has been weird. Frigid now, but forecasting 41 for mid-week. I'll take it! (even though rain this time of year is disappointing).
Glad California is getting some rain. We had rain here too, yesterday, which made thick ice everywhere and canceled school after only one day back from vacation
@digitS' cold is coming here this weekend, but then it should warm up again next week. So far, this has been a relatively...
I would have loved a photo, but the house was a long wallow through the snow. And I am still holding out on owning a phone!
The image is still in my head though, and people may find me chuckling for no apparent reason.
We do the same here @thistlebloom , but DH is on the roof to clear the solar panels. This year, he has taken to mounting a rope to the belvedere on the roof, and hooking that to his belt.
This past storm, I was out raking snow off the hoop coop in the yard, when I looked up and then dissolved...
Ready for more snow here. Maybe Thursday? We got messy snow, freezing rain, and now rain last night and this morning. It is above freezing, so hopefully the crust will melt. The skiing/snowshoeing was already pretty bad, so some fresh snow would be nice!
DH built our house, so it is not very old, but he made sure to stick newspapers in various hidden places throughout the house. He also likes to read the newspapers that come as packing material from various parts of the country.
