What a frustration! I didn't realize birds would do this. Last year I lost many peppers and some tomatoes to something crawling under the black plastic, chewing down the whole stem, and then dragging the plant under the plastic.
While the critter might be gone this year, I've decided when it...
That's good, because I don't think plant ghettos are allowed in California! My sister there is not allowed to hang her laundry.
I have a bunch of daylilies that need to be moved back closer to the house. They were moved out when we had a foundation put in. Plus I have many seedlings that...
I'm starting to build a chicken tunnel to give my chickens access the the garden edges and keep it trimmed (without destroying everything else in their path!). They do have a large run, but they destroyed all the vegetation. I'm also fencing off small sections of their run and planting forage...
I feel your pain. Got a miserable cold. My fever is gone but I am so congested and have no energy. This is my vacation, which is frustrating, but at least I don't have to write sub plans!
Long live Mike!
Actually, though, I think self-driving cars might be nice. We never had kids, so there is no one to monitor us and take our licenses away, should we be lucky enough to live to be old, bad drivers.
Well that is a very kind offer @Chickie'sMomaInNH . Is glass gem mostly used for decorative purposes, or can you grind it up somehow and eat it? I'm definitely intrigued by the beautiful colors...
I really wanted to try Glass gem this year, but opted for a red flint corn instead, and then they sold out. It is probably just as well. Not only is the season long, but when I tried it before (outside the hoop house, so it wouldn't cross pollinate with our sweet corn), a raccoon came and took...
Why not try out a little patch of corn and see how it does? We grow corn here.
Ever since we got hoop houses, I've grown it in there, more because that is where I had some space (as opposed to it needing extra heat). So far, the raccoons have been afraid to go into the hoop houses, which is...
I plan to start the tomatoes today (indoors). It appears the frost is out of the ground now, but it is too muddy to think about tilling, even in our sandy soil. I hope to be able to plant peas on April 19th.
I like moss also. That last photo is stunning! We have a network of trails through our woods, for walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. There is one section that we call "the mossy woods". It is so quiet when you walk through there, with soft moss everywhere. I wonder how well it...
I'm planting peppers in damp paper towels this weekend. The onions are growing like crazy (indoors) and need to be cut back.
I started some early greens, -maybe too early. They could go in the hoop house, but only until late May, when the tomatoes and peppers go in there. They could go...
We only got a few inches here. The ground was bare before that (unusual this time of year), so I'm hoping for a slightly early planting season. Onions are growing indoors, and I just started the first of the pepper and eggplant seeds...
When my friend had leukemia, he started a blog, and gave updates that way. It was a good way to keep everyone informed (without a million emails or FB drama!).
Thankfully, he has been cancer-free for a few years now, so the blog posts dwindled off.
DH's dad was our last living parent, and he also wanted no funeral, no obituary, etc. He wanted to be cremated and buried in a reserved plot next to his wife.
We followed his wishes, but when it came time for the burial, DH called the cemetery and they asked, "what do you have the ashes in"...
I love seeing everyone's gardens! We don't have an official name, but have frequently referred to it as "Frosty Acres". We have never had a frost in July, but that's it. The weird climate seems to have put an end to our frequent August frosts.
Now I feel like it should have a name like, Weed...
