We use a dehydrator. One of the cheap dehydrators without a fan works fine, as long as you cut the pepper into slices. We used that for years, but recently bought an Excalibur so we can dry more at a time. I love paprika on anything, and in good years, I can send jars to my sisters for Christmas.
We love paprika and make a bunch every year. For sweet, we use Boldog (Fedco). For spicy, we use Krimson Spice or Krimson Lee (Johnny's). Last year we just mixed the sweet and hot together.
I have also grown Feherezon, which is sweet, but it wasn't as productive as Boldog for us. Aji...
Oh, I don't know, @catjac1975 , I think it's worth a shot, unless one is really constricted for space. I plant mine in black plastic, -no need to weed and the added bonus of heat. But the real prize is when you dig them up at the end of the season, -expecting nothing, but rewarded with a few...
As others stated, you need either damp sand or water to get some roots started. When you pull the slip off the potato, it is okay (preferred, for me) that it does not have a large ball of roots or long shoots. Just don't put it outside until the weather has settled, and keep it well watered...
@Beekissed , I like the photo of the chickens out in the snow! White snow, white dog, white chickens, and then a few melted dark patches, with the dark dog, and a couple dark chickens.
I also had a treacherous trip to the coop this morning @Smart Red . This afternoon though, it was mud. Very...
So sorry about your animal troubles :( . I'm trying to nurse an older cross-beak hen (she's a pet, really) that has sour crop right now back to health. It is easy for me to get attached to a chicken, but I imagine it would be even harder with a horse or a pig. I hope things are looking up for...
I love this winter! It is warm and my greens in the hoop house are still alive, but somehow the snow is quite dry and fluffy. Great cross-country skiing right out of the back door.
Of course, winter isn't over yet, but so far......
Is there a way to know when to pick lemons? Normally, we just wait until they pick themselves and drop off, but that won't be happening with those lemons sitting on the floor.
You can see the parasitic plant (bushy growth in the pot), DH thinks it was phytophylla, or something like that, but it keeps cranking out lemons! The two small lemons are about normal grocery store size.
We have a lemon tree (not Meyer, which I would love) that we were given when DH's brother was moving. It has some kind of parasitic plant that comes up off the roots (I don't remember the name, but I think that was one of my first posts on this site!).
The plant is pot-bound, stays indoors...
My greens are still alive, but we've only had two quick dips below zero this winter (so far).
I've used pimenton in chicken recipes before. Somewhere, I also have a simple pimenton soup recipe, that is served with an egg poached in the broth. Not exactly bacon flavor, but I imagine it is...
@jackb , I always enjoy going out to the hoop house on cold and sunny winter days. It may not be more than 45, but between the contrast in temperatures and seeing a bunch of green plants, it feels like paradise.
Funny about the shoes! I'm not sure why the color has to match anyway. Maybe you...
He called his sculpture "John Cage's Egg". John Cage is a minimalist composer. He thought of the egg as a minimalist chicken, and the cage, well, it was John Cage's egg.
Originally, I had the piece of expanded metal that I was going to screw down flat on the plywood panel, after welding...
