@Bluejay77, I got a surprise this year that reminds me of your Blue Aspen. Here's the mother Zona Upchurch Goose, which I grew for the first time this year as part of the distributed inheritance from MI SC R:
And here's the surprise offspring:
Zona Upchurch Goose is very similar to Rose...
I went back through my photos to see if I could spot differences between Heavenly Gold and Lilaschecke, and when I put them all next to each other they do actually have some noticeable differences in the pods. Heavenly Gold's are more steaked and (oddly) less yellow than Lilaschecke. Both of...
@baymule, looks like the "@baymule" link in Russ' quote was irked about being deleted and spread to encompass your whole post instead. Vengeance! ;)
@Bluejay77, my two African beans' harvests are finally all dried and jarred and just awaiting a few days in the freezer before they're ready to...
Thanks for the suggestion; nice and alliterative. I haven't eaten from those yet though, so I'll wait before naming them-- don't want to put my name on something less than delectable! ;)
Harbor Seal is a great name for that, Marshall! It is shaped just like a fat seal banana-ed up to sleep on a rock.
"Holy bean pod," lol. I don't have the original packet. His 2007 listing says he got them from MN AN J2, though. Somebody at SSE is careless with names and it's really...
That's a nice assortment of colors, @aftermidnight. It reminds me of "Pusacc Punuy" beans I saw in a book once (different patterns though): http://tinyurl.com/pusacc
Russ, I was just reading upthread about your Kishwaukee Yellow Wax stabilizing on three patterns, and I want to show you the...
@Chickie'sMomaInNH I got them from a Pennsylvanian Seed Savers Exchange member. They're usually pretty popular with SSE members, with 6-12 people offering them every year. The blue color is only in the shelly stage, though; they dry down completely black.
@Pulsegleaner That seems like it's the case for some of them, but a couple others are determined to do their own thing. Sometimes I get lazy about trellising and make discoveries. Mountain Pima Burro & Caballito and Tarahumara Burro & Caballito didn't get any support but still flopped/wandered...
@flowerweaver PM sent (I think).
@journey11 Thanks for the detailed descriptions! The fourth one I got from you was the Sally/Dunahoo. I got Capirame from NS/S this year but haven't grown it yet so your description was interesting. A lot of the southwestern beans I've grown turn out to be...
I'm a transplant here (grew up in Illinois), but my partner and his mom are locals. She has stories from Valley of Heart's Delight days of walking to school past miles of orchards and picking cherries as a breakfast-on-the-go. And on satellite imagery from 1948 the spot where our house is now...
Thanks for the warm welcome!
@TheSeedObsesser I'm partial to sea-K myself. Sounds like a hip hop name, or a cereal. ;) Kang makes me think of Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
@ninnymary I'm on the other side of the bay in Mountain View. I feel you on the limited space. There's a...
Hello everybody! I'm the "lady from California" that traded with journey11. I just joined the Facebook group last night though so Marshall must be thinking of a different Californian (someone whom I'd like to meet!). I've been meaning to post here since my African beans from Russ have finally...
