Oh those are gorgeous. Now I have "pepper envy"!
I am just getting the last of my pepper seedlings (which I started myself in the house for the first time ever) into the ground today. I waited a while because the weather here has been so hinky this past year, plus we had spring rainfall on...
Oh, I am right with you there! I don't know WHAT happened. I am normally quite petite, 5'1" and my normal weight is around 125 & I wear a size 6. I gained a little bit of weight late last summer/early fall, got up to 134, no big deal. Then winter came... and it was cold and our first winter...
I planted Tigger melons this year. I can't wait to try them! I also planted honey rock cantaloup and Sugarbaby watermelons. (Yes, we have a big gardening area.)
We have really sandy soil, so melons should grow well here. This is our first year of having a garden at this house and in this...
I have the Presto 23-quart pressure canner. It was $89 including shipping on ebay 3 months ago. I've only used it once, but I love this thing!
I agree with other comments about the Ball Blue Book .... seriously, get one. I picked mine up at a local hardware store a while back for something...
Hmmm. Everything I have ever read about canning says that the microorganisms that live on the outer skins of fruits and vegetables have to be destroyed in order to keep the food from spoiling & the safest way to do that is to remove the skins, especially in low-acid foods, and short of that, to...
Sure, you can still water-bath can your salsa! You just MUST MUST MUST (I cannot stress it enough!) remove the skins from the peppers if you don't want the same thing to happen again.
Enjoy your salsa! :)
Chris09,
Do you think maybe you could stop following me from thread to thread and trying to start arguments with me? That would be way cool of you.
Thanks.
BTW, the link you sent me doesn't change the fact that what I own is a "Pressure Canner/Cooker". Again, I reiterate, some pressure...
NOT true. My model is marked/sold as a "pressure cooker/canner".
Please read the specifics to the products you buy. Many of the pressure canners available may also be used as pressure cookers, but not all pressure cookers can be used as pressure canners.
Just read your literature and...
Ooooh, I've looked at those All American Canners... they're NICE! Good on you for having one.
A very dear friend recently bought me a brand new Presto 23-quart pressure canner. It came complete with really good instructions as well as some great recipes, including recipes for homemade soup...
I do not shop at any of the stores you mentioned for other reasons (I don't like big corporations, period), though I will admit to occasionally going to Walmart because that is the only store that sells some of the sugar-free products I use. I go to Walmart maybe once every 2 months or so, if...
I am really mad at my cat.... 18 of the planted seedlings were from very expensive heirloom seeds that will now never see the light of day.
I think I'm gonna scatter the "soil" out in the garden and see what comes up rather than letting the whole kit and kaboodle go to waste. I can always...
In a more topic-related update regarding starting my seedlings, I had started a second tray a few days ago. Last night, the cats went a little nutso and knocked over my entire tray of dirt-and-seeds. They hadn't even sprouted yet. It went EVERYWHERE. It looks like I will be starting over...
You are correct... I mis-read the information I had found. Scotts is not owned by Monsanto.... they're just in bed with them business-wise. Scotts/MiracleGro does seem to be its own entity, but it appears to be so deeply embedded in Monsanto's armpits that they have exclusive rights to...
I thought I would post an update on how my seed tapes are doing.
EVERYTHING I have planted so far has sprouted and is growing! Cauliflower, green onions, kohlrabi, bok choy, radishes, brussel sprouts, kale, and snow peas.
We are doing the same thing now with our flowers that we'll be...
We are also growing quinoa this year! I started eating it in place of rice about 3 years ago and LOVE it! It's expensive, but the seeds are not & it will grow well in our climate.
I do not grind it into flour but use it in place of rice in recipes. I have also found some delicious quinoa...
I am aware that they have their invisible hands in many products, but given the opportunity to make a conscious and informed choice to not support Monsanto's dirty little business, I will always choose the not-Monsanto product.
When we don't have a choice, that's one thing. When we do have a...
That is super hip! I'm gonna have to try that. I have a celery heart I was going to throw out to the chickens today. I do believe I will be trying this experiment instead. Thank you very much for sharing!
Yep, they do make organic products & I've seen them in the stores. Even though they're organic, I still will not buy that brand... to do so would still put my dollars into the Evil Empire's pocket, and I'm doing everything I can to prevent that from happening.
