What are You Eating from the Garden?

I'm too scared to try canning for fear of poisoning myself and/or someone else. Just call me chicken! Even back when I made jam and sealed the jars with wax, I didn't trust it enough to store in the cupboard, but kept the jars in the fridge. Anyways these frozen tomatoes are already...

What are You Eating from the Garden?

I chopped up the lone last fresh tomato into a salad last night. Ah, it's grocery store tomatoes from now on, until next summer's harvest. A sad thought. I plan to use my little indoor grow kit to provide me with salad greens this winter. Soon I will get inspired to turn the many bags of...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

Finally we got the hard frost I've been waiting for, the night before last. I emptied out flowerpots and containers yesterday, brought metal garden structures into the barn for winter. I left a few pots of geraniums on the front porch that survived the frost because I didn't have the heart to...

    Concerned About Growing Old?

I live in a dead zone with no cell service, so it's landline or nothing here. Many years ago my dad once loaned us one of those old school car phones for a trip to his beach house. It was called a "bag phone" because it was literally in a bag. In more recent times we got flip phones for our...

What is the song or poem weighs up how you feel today??

This morning I'd have to say: When the Frost is on the Punkin By James Whitcomb Riley Because last night we finally had that hard frost I've been wishing for. Now I can start emptying out flower pots, cleaning out beds, and bringing in garden decor for the winter.

    Coffee

People are born daytime persons or night owls, I'm convinced of it. Working on the third shift, I felt bad for day people relegated to night work and fighting to stay awake throughout the shift, then unable to sleep when they got home. Typically these folks would transfer to a day shift as...

Oh you morning people! LOL I've been a night owl all my life and would sleep until noon if my dog didn't wake me up around 9 in the morning. I'll wake up a few times during the night often because Mabel (dog) wakes me up. (We girls need to pee, but then it's right back to bed!)

Fascinating that your hummingbirds don't migrate, but rather sort of hibernate. I had no idea they could do that.

    Your Weather, 2024

Saw the first flock of Canada geese headed southward high overhead today. Still no frost, but the next 3 nights will probably bring it. Found this little critter on my garden hose this morning. Legend has it that when the orange band on a woolly bear caterpillar is shorter/narrower, the...

    Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog

I've never had any luck protecting animal's wounds from themselves. None will wear one of those E-collars, and stitches have no chance of being left alone. Had a collie once who got a deep gash in his front leg from running into a drainpipe. Vet sewed him up, and he promptly tore out all...

Longtime friends of ours live on Anna Maria Island and evacuated yesterday to a home of a friend inland but still in the path of Milton. Haven't heard yet today how they fared, but their plans to retire and leave the area had intensified yesterday. Milton is the 2nd catastrophic hurricane to...

    Baymule’s Farm

Same here, and the harvesting season is short, so I can only get (organic) corn on the cob a couple times a year. It was long ago when we had our big garden and used to have so much corn that I removed a lot from the ears, froze some and turned some into creamed corn.

If you're using fresh corn right off the cob, it shouldn't need any sugar. Same thing with any other creamed vegetable, freshness is key.
