My subarctic plenty plants are growing and blooming. Also in amongst the squash plants there are several volunteer candyland tomato plants. Although the squash plants have yet to produce blossoms, I covered them with deer netting today. Last year many baby squashes became deer snacks and I...
Tonight's salad. I grew the greens from seed, I think from Pinetree Garden Seeds if memory serves, some from a stir fry mix, some Tom Thumb lettuce, and a couple volunteer wild dandelion leaves. The radishes came from the farmers market, but all else (bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes...
The rain held off for my visit to the farmers market yesterday. I bought raw milk and cheese from a couple who keep a small herd of dairy cows, mushrooms from a mushroom grower, homemade olive & rosemary bread from a local farm, and a carton of delicious berries from the strawberry lady.
She...
Happy Summer Solstice everyone! Drinking black tea with a touch of ground cloves, and planning to go to the farmers market and run some other errands later today. This has been an excellent year for strawberries, and I wonder if any of the vendors will still be offering them this week. Last...
You live in a lovely spot. Will your horses and cattle be in with these trees? (We never had any luck growing trees when out horses were living, save a few outside their pasture.) Your three post tree cage is identical to those I built for my spruce seedlings 5 years ago. I had about 50%...
This year I'm growing SubArctic Plenty tomatoes. I started them in my new indoor grow kit.
I love their fuzzy stems!
Outside for summer, accompanied by crookneck squash sprouts

PS: Also I have two volunteer candyland tomato volunteer plants from...
I grew Midnight Snack tomatoes one year and was pleased with the results. They are cherry tomatoes with red and black(purple) colored fruits. I recall growing the Midnight Snack variety with some other variety of cherry tomatoes that were pure red in color, and both did well and were tasty!
I grew Calendula once. It came as part of a packet of "wildflowers" I received as a thank you for a donation I made to some cause or other. I didn't save the seeds unfortunately, but I figured Calendula would be happy in a pot in my "orange garden," so I purchased seeds online. These did not...
Your tractor saga sounds all too familiar. It seems any construction project around here has me running "like a frantic rat" in search of other tools and things I know I have but can't find. Glad you were able mow.
Hope your mare doesn't have Cushings. Our last little old pony had it but lived for her last 5 or 6 years with the disease relatively under control thanks to pergolide. That medication's dosage had to be increased each year, but was easy to administer and kept her from looking like the...
I think I still have some colorful vetwrap kicking around in case it's needed. Also probably some horse liniment for strained muscles, generously shared with me by our former band of mares.
Glad your burn wasn't any worse. Similarly I'll never be able to see fire as anything but my friend (I...
