We always have them here at the house but this year we seem to have 3x as many as usual. Evening is dangerous on the patio! I usually have three feeders out, but this year I have five feeders hung. They really are amazing little creatures. We have Rufus, calliopea, and black chinned.
I changed the flower bed in front of the coop today. Made it much wider with nice new edging, redid the drip line, moved some of the plants around, and *tried* to get all of the crabgrass out of the bed. Ugh! I think tomorrow I’ll put in a couple of stepping stones by the porch. And maybe add a...
Last year I watched our older doe eat on the rhubarb leaves... I thought that was really strange. Not like there isn’t anything else to eat in my yard!
Thanks for explaining - that makes perfect sense to me. Amazing how different experiences are in various parts of this country... I don’t even know what nut sedge is! Sounds rather awful!
RR, thanks for all the comments!
The beds will be made of cut lumber. I used 2x10 and 2x6s (two stacked) in my last garden (in Texas). I would like the slightly deeper beds this time. You said if you could do it again you use 2x8’s — do you mean as a single 8” deep bed, or double-stacked, for a...
After talking about it more w/ the mister today, we have decided to increase the garden size a smidge, so i’ll be reworking my drawing tonight. Yay! Fun for me! :D Not a whole lot, but a bit. Thanks for all the comments so far! You’ve all been helpful, and I look forward to sharing the next...
Hi! :)
If you have deer in your area, do they bother the cuc’s on your fencing? I tried a couple different cucs here down by the coop in areas that were not fenced, and they were just a deer buffet. o_O I have some growing up on the patio this year they haven’t found...yet...
I considered...
Hey Steve! :frow
The blueberry in the corner was a thought for a single plant. I’ve not grown them here in WA, but when I was in Oregon, my neighbor had a single plant that did remarkably well. She had it as an accent plant in a flowerbed. It’s always been in the back of my mind as something to...
Hi-
I’m working on the layout for the garden I want to put in. I am currently growing some veggies in flower beds and on the patio, because the deer help themselves to everything else that isn’t behind deer fencing, so I want to finally put in an official plot of raised beds. I’d like to keep it...
Thank you, Carol> :). In that last photo you can see where i will eventually be putting the garden — i want to put in a few raised beds that will need to be surrounded w/ deer fencing. The beds will be to the right of the trellises, and just beyond the rhubarb that’s there now. We plan to fence...
And since I’m sitting here on the patio, here’s more purple I can quickly share with you.... and this isn’t the last of it. :hide The sunflowers were planted by the birds... my favorite garden helpers. The deer haven’t found the sunflowers yet!
I love your wheelbarrow, Carol Dee. I have a couple that I use, too. One was my Gramma’s, and the other was one I picked up at a garage sale. I plant petunias in them, most of the time... Here’s Grammas’s this year. *swoon!* Behind it is a mini butterfly bush, so the spike blooms you see are...
