    Margali 2020 Garden

Well last night was fun! It rained for about 10 hours constantly. Don't have a rain gauge but my tree barrels had 3" of standing water despite draining slowly thru the overflows on side. I had to pop the fabric screen off the overflows to allowed plants to drain better. Got next crop of...

It was listed as a standard Anna apple tree, root stock unknown. I'm being aggressive on pruning to keep it small, $35 experiment. I will make sure not to bury graft.

The tree is only 3 years old with about 8 scaffolding branches so pot gets lots of sun. The pot is Sub- Irrigated Planter attached to constant water source so not worried about the tree being thirsty. I'm just tired of looking at weeds. I will add just a touch of fresh dirt to bring level to...

Quick and cheap plant labels made out of shims. They are $1.58 for 14. Carrots are starting to sprout below the cucumbers. I'm thinking about planting strawberries in the apple tree planter. Will they hurt the apple tree? Can I add anymore dirt or does the entire graft need to stay exposed.

First ripe blueberry from my bushes. Need to figure out bird protection cause they've been eyeing my garden. Saving grace so far is my indoor / outdoor cat loves to bask inside my garden since fence keeps the kids away.

Planted some more yesterday, carrot seeds, salad mix, bush beans. Not sure if it is too hot for the salad mix, package said okay thru April. We'll see. Apples and blueberries are growing well. We also got a little wood fire pit and had our first camp out for the season in the backyard. Ash and...

Finally finished the barrel composter I started. I am now trained on the rivet gun :). I also got a nice load of barrels for $15. Laid them out in garden to figure out plan. I bought 4 barrels but only plan on 2 extra right now. That is an extra cubic yard of garden. *As always use FOOD GRADE...

Got the fitting I needed in the mail and sent up my soaker house. I planted the Eda Pepper seeds I germinated inside 3/21. The apples and blueberries are progressing. Trying to focus on good things not bad right now. It's hard cause I'm still fighting ear infection, husband's back is bothering...

I spent the day working inside. :( The kids were told to stay outside most of the day. They got to come in for a couple of hours at lunch. Otherwise it was play on the covered porch or playground under 10'x10' popup. Hubby supplied sunscreen and snacks.

3 weeks of soo much togetherness. Thankfully the garden center is still open. Hanging on to my sanity a shovelful at a time. The wildflower bed is in. Sprouted carrot seeds in main garden bed with one volunteer cucumber. My blueberry bushes have micro size berries.

Bug Predators Access to Raised Beds

Most of the predators were flying bugs. I was worried about the good guys getting into the raised beds to do battle. So far I've found several of the lizards in the raised beds including the plastic ones. No toads or skinks though. I may end up putting a toad house in each bed and catching a...

Got the mulberry trees replanted. Also, see what they are sitting on? Clean, uncluttered floor. Took forever but the breakfast nook between kitchen and backdoor is presentable again. Now to decide if I'm okay with having rabbit cages that close to food prep. This is only tiled space available...

I have a bunch of volunteer watermelon or cucumber seedlings in my raised bed that I need to add more dirt too. I'm glad the leaves are so different so I can save the cucumbers and junk the watermelons (taste failure last year). I'm going to scoop the cucumbers up into Solo cups or something...

    Margali 2020 Garden

I think I am supposed to be a tree farmer. I went to a local gardening group meeting Feb 10th and they raffled off plants as door prizes. I got 3 "mulberry seedlings". They looked like stiff dead sticks in the pot. I put pot on window sill and watered it halfheartedly. This picture is from...

Stupid car needed new tires and ate my garden budget. *Grumble* So not getting more soil till next paycheck. Have nothing to do just: weed barrier and mulch behind shed, finish barrel composter, finish edging for flower bed, cut barrel in half for 2 more beds. Oh, I also need to build bed for...

No sign of the fire ants back in my garden bed. I dug down to grade in the one corner and found nothing alive. :) Now considering if I can afford to do the entire yard... Hauled another 1/2 cubic yard of mulch to go around wildflower bed and behind the shed. Wednesday or so I plan on getting...
