Well it was the worst winter here for about 30 years & around me we had 2.5 ft of snow for weeks on end. Of course it doesn't rival the conditions in huge areas of North America but I can only comment on how our weather affects me.
Actually your photo wifey...

Hey boggyb,
Glad to see you back :)
The articles are very interesting!
I agree with you & Lesa. Earlier this year ,after our very long & cold winter I had problems with rats but none of them ever infested my compost piles (nor harmed my chickens). Thankfully I managed to poison them. I...

Last night I made a pot roast of brisket of beef with green tomatoes, various veg & herbs. I cooked it very slowly for about 3 hours & it was just so tasty. I always add a lot of Balsamic...

Recently I came across this article on growing achocha. I'm very interested in trying to grow it next year & I have checked out that I can buy some seeds here in the UK. I can get the variety "Fat Baby". Any advice would be welcome....:D...

Hi vfem,
My green tomatoes are ripening well indoors with just a couple of ripe toms to keep them company. However here is a great chutney to make with any green ones you have over. ***Remember these are British measurements.....!! :D...
I found this article in one of our newspapers (The Independant) yesterday. I thought you might be interested. We don't grow GM Maize over here (in the UK), so far at least......there is a lot of lobbying going on to allow certain GM crops to be allowed...
Hi Warthog,
Living as I do in the UK I see the yearly evidence of the deterioration in a lot of peoples' diet. People are definitely getting fatter, especially children.
It is very scary to view shoppers' trolleys at the checkout.......mostly stacked with brightly coloured packets of cheap ready...
This morning I was doing a bit of research on the GMO situation in the UK when I came across this article. I thought you might be interested in it.

I live in the southern part of the UK & have successfully grown raspberries in my garden for years without any problems. This spring I looked as if I was all set for a bumper harvest but because we had very hot weather to begin with & no rain virtually all summer this did did not happen...

I agree, with you & I often plant herbaceous or semi-herbaceous clematis at the base of the climbers. I have found that this one, "Durandii" is particularly successful.....it also has the most stunning royal blue flowers &...
I have just seen on the BBC TV news, here in the UK, that there has been a massive earthquake in & around Christchurch which is in the south island of New Zealand. Here is a link.

Try a combination of vinegar & bicarbonate of soda. That removes most deposits of that sort. If you have several containers I would fill the first up to the top line of the deposit with cheap strong vinegar then stir in a spoonful of bicarb. : it will fizz up a lot . Let it stand for an...

My only thought about this suggestion is that all the clematis I grow need a very rich, moisture retaining soil & plenty of water (especially in the first 3 years of growing). They also benefit from a deep mulch of compost every winter; this is just what iris don't need. Maybe conditions...

I was doing some research on the subject only yesterday, trying to find a supplier in the UK (without success, so far). Then by a strange coincidence this article came through on my email this morning so I thought I should pass it on. :D...

Hi there,
Here's a useful link for you novices with row-covers......I have been using it for over 10 years over here in the UK, where it is readily availiable at every garden centre & online (much cheaper & in many widths). This blogger lists a lot of advice & a list of suppliers in the...
