I have purchased rosemary a few time and then I finally started some from seed. The germination on the seed was not great but I did get a couple of plants. I found out that not all rosemary is created equal and this seed one was better than what I had previously purchased with more tender and...
Mints can't really have too much sun. Is water sitting on the leaves from a sprinkler? Aphids are pretty easy to spot and I doubt you would have missed them
Ive been planting holly hocks for several years. The ones I planted two years ago bloomed last year. Now I see abundant green leaves on them again this year, their 3rd year, when i thought that they were suppose to die and not return this year at all. Are they going to bloom again or should I...
Last fall I stored my carrots in a box of sand in the root cellar and they are still good. Would this work for beets too? Im wanting them to last for a good 9 or 10 months like the carrots.
thanks
I saved potatoes for seed last fall and even though they were in the complete dark they sprouted long shoots..
If I plant them should I pull the shoots off first or plant them with those sprouts till on?
Covering them is so difficult.. mostly due to the wind we frequently get. No guarantee that your cover will still be on in the morning. Don't know what Im going to do yet and the day is moving on. We had slight hail this afternoon. Definately getting cold. This cold weather they say may be with...
this being my third attempt to grow cukes having had utter failure, I tried munchers this year with good success. Im zone 3. Finally on sept 10 they came on. Managed to get a few Japanese longs too! So I get to have cukes for two weeks. Frost expected tonight.
I had a terrible time getting peppers started. It took me weeks getting about 6 plants to take off from seed and live in pots that are now being taken in at night. I ended up purchasing some starts that did ok in a bed, but not great.
then in early august suddenly two pepper plants appeared in...
after 3 largely unsuccessul attempts on getting a harvest of butternut in past years I'm so close this year. The first two years got froze out but I only had a couple on the vine. Last year I had only one rather large squash that was still bright green when the first frost came.
This year I...
I just came across this the other day and put it in our farmer's market newsletter. When im in my garden there are few flowers but many bees. I have to watch where I put my hands. When in the big nurseries in the city there are zillions of flowers and no bees. this is why

Its that cold in the mountains of Idaho. The compost pile was frozen like solid like a rock for at least 6 months into April in the middle of it.
I put chicken manue and goat maneur in it to try to heat and activate it but it doesn't seem to do much
I was looking at a compost activator by Nature Guard company last week.. about $10.
I did't buy it because I really am a cheapskate but also needed confirmation that it works. I do like their soil activator though.
I have a real hard time with compost as it is so dry here, and mostly cold, and...
Bragging was not my intent... more like stunned! .. and hit with the problem of what to do with them. The last two years my carrots had not been much bigger than 2 inches and most got tossed they were so grotesque. If that is not a memorable for year for carrots then you must have a memory...
Thanks Bluejay. I will do the search you suggested.
Before I moved up here I purchased a number of varieties of bean seed. My first two years nothing really took off. This year I planted a yellow wax bean and I actually harvested yesterday. I had no idea if I was planting bush or pole and I put...
OK, I took advice and left some of them in and they did come back and are now loaded with tomatoes1 I doubt that they will have enough time to ripen on the vine so I'll be picking them green in a week or so.
