I have a very short growing season of 60 days about guaranteed, 70 to 80 with luck some luck. I'm at 6,000 feet.
Can you recommend a bean for me? and can beans be started inside? (although I'd rather not- so many other things...
Thanks Smart Red. Guess I will try the sand method. I have a couple of 18 gallon rubber maid tubs with holes drilled near the top for ventalation and on the bottom also. Will cover the bottom with some screening material to keep the sand from leaking.
I thought about leaving them in the ground...
We were in a fancy resturant a few months ago and I had some fantastiic coleslaw. The chef didn't mind sharing his secret ingredient.... Tobasco sauce! not too much! It wasn't hot, just a nice backround of heat and tang... everything else in it was typical ingredients.
I like dried cranberries...
Well I was thinking that they needed to be staked. Ive never grown them before and didn't expect this. I'll be prepared next year. Is this a common problem then?
After my first two seasons of lousy carrots I've hit the jackpot!
But how do I store them?
I have a root cellar that averages about 40 degrees and plan to keep them there but how should I pack these guys? Anyone know about packing in sand and do you recommend it? Other ideas?
I have a different question about eggplant. Im growing black diamond eggplants and they were doin really good but the other day I went out and found several had fallen over and now about a week later they are dying. They were in different gardens and one was in a pot so I dont think animals...
Last year I pickled a bunch of beets.
The red vinegar water (I pickle my beets with a little sugar and cinammon) that is left over after eating them can be transformed in to beet salad dressing.
add salt and pepper, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, minced rosemary and olive oil. I also add...
Some of my tomato plants got caught in a freee and they looked quite dead until the other day they started putting out green leaf suckers at the joints of the original larger leaves. I pulled most of them and put new plants in but I saved 2 to see what would happen

regarding planting.... I planted all my tomatoes deeply, removing the bottom row of leaves so 2 or more inches of the stem that was above the surface is below. This provides for extra root structure for those little hairs on the stem turn into roots. This is essential if you live in high wind...
I transplanted raspberries from a friends garden last year. Over half survived and they look great. too early here for blossems yet but when it comes to canes Im confused. Do all berries come on second year canes on all raspberry plants? I was told to cut the canes down to the ground on these...

I was advised not to put them outside for the winter until they are 3 years old. But I think I will try to put a few out this year just to see what happens. They are suppose to be zone 3 but the advice says more will make it if they are older.
They are 7 months now and it looks like they are...
Well Im still working on my gogi project. I over wintered 10 gogi plants that I started last august in our unheated sunroom. It did freeze in there most of the winter and to well below zero. About 3 weeks ago when the temps moved up to the 70s in the day time and just around freezing at night...
Have a few questions... seems all you folks are planting a wide variety of tomatoes as I am too. All my seeds are heirloom.
Since I have to plant these near each other will they cross pollinate and therefore I'll be unable to save seed?
Should I isolate the ones I want to save seed on?

This is very serious. Please watch this video.
Please understand that some GMO food is being designed to grow in the high presence of aluminum. Aluminum comes from chemtrails. Watch this film. It is critically important to organics. Aluminum in soil and water can kill plants. It collects in...
I looked into growing goji the best I could before starting all this... this is what I have found. I'm gorwing the Tibetain Lycium and after rereading and thinking of your comment I think I will keep them in the sunroom and not into our zone 3 weather this year. Next spring I will plant them...
