Baymule we are getting ice and then switching over to snow too. Crazy weather. Not common in thiis part of GA. I planted onion, garlic and shallots yesterday and didn't have to use a tool or a jacket. They didn't have school today just in case and they don't have school tomorrow.
Well I am in Georgia and trying to get the garden in slowly. I decided that the easiest thing would be to plant some veggies in existing beds that were dedicated to flowers. They are a mess because nothing has been planted there for 2-3 years but still have a lot of potential. So I started on...
Hey Journey, last years derecho was crazy. We were outside and it started getting cloudy ... not really even expecting and then my husband yelled "Get in the house" because he could see it coming. It was the first storm we went to the basement for. After about 20 minutes it got quite and we come...
Yes he will be around, he is working down there and so is one of my son's. John said he would water it for me. He is actually talking about putting in a sprinkler system for the beds since we have to put them in from scratch. My husband likes to eat so he does help with the garden. Normally he...
Yah it is really pretty but we live a few miles out of town on Rocky Ford Rd. We have several pecan trees in the yard and lots of room for some raised beds.
I found some info on planting a fall garden in Georgia today. It states that I can grow tomatoes and corn in a fall garden as long as I...
I am moving to Georgia and have a lot of work and love invested in my gardening. (I have to leave my greenhouse :(, but I don't think I will need it). All my herbs are heirlooms I started from seed and I bought pots to transplants some of them for the trip because I am not starting all over...
Thanks, that is helpful. It is zone 8b near Sylvania. I will do my broccoli and cabbages in the fall. I hope I can get some squash and zucchini also. Next year I may try some to the long beans. I am going to dig up some of my herbs also so I don't have to start all over again. I have a lot of...
Hi all,
I haven't posted in a while. One of the biggest reason is because I haven't been gardening. My husband retire from the military and got a new job in Georgia. We lived in Georgia in the 90's so I no the area but I am not that familiar with gardening in Zone 8b which is where I will be...
I read an advertisement for Rosemary seed and the company was boasting of a 40% germination rate. I think that yes it is better to start it from cuttings.
OK as I have stated in another thread my chives are sprouting. I also have thyme in my garden and this is my first year for it. Some of it has some branches that look like regular thyme, made it through the winter. Other branches look dead and bare. Will the bare branches spring back to life or...
Yes the days are longer and the sun is warmer. I think it is getting higher in the sky and it just feels nice. I know it can be shining brightly in Jan and might as well be a big flashlight. No warmth at all.
Sorry Monty I live in the hills not the mountains. I really do live in the hills, I am in SE Ohio and still in a 5b zone so if it is getting nice here (although it has snowed everyday for almost a week) it will be warming up there too. :coolsun
Yes it is alkaline but I know that wood ash is best added to carrot beds in the fall. I added some to a garlic bed once, they didn't appreciate it at all. Not all garden soil is created equal for every plant. Look at what you are going to do with that area and then amend them to suit the plant.
Well I don't think that the ground hogs will need to be killed this year. Yes the weather since Ground hog day has been awful and I think that it is going to cool back down after today. But in defense of the ground hog my chives have sprouted so spring must be on the way. ;)
That is an impressive raised bed. As for how you shoudl plant it.... I have a book that's called Carrots love Tomatoes so you should plant the carrots around the tomatoes. Radish are quicker and might be good with the kale which will get pretty good size. Put a trellis in there for the beans...
