Green house is up and running. Yeahhhhhh. My son finiished it up today. I didn't have lots of time to fiddle in it today but I started two flats of spanish onions and they are in there. I potted thirteen Money Maker Tomatoes I started a couple of weeks ago. I will probably have to bring them...

What month to plant garlic in zone 7

It is best to plant garlic between Oct - Dec but you can plant it as late as March. If you can plant it now, I would put it into the ground. You can plant it as late as March put it will be smaller that garlic planted in Oct. Small garlic is better than store garlic. I didn't realize that Texas...

A bear in my back yard!

Isn't that a little bold for a bear? We have bears here and occassionally someone will get a glimpse of one, but to come strolling out with people there is very unusual. We normally just see scat near berry bushes etc. but rarely see them.

Advice using a 4 tier greenhouse.

That's what I started with, I still have it. I used it in the house, I got some cheap flourescent lights and attached them to shelves and used them in the house at first. Now I use it on my front porch to harden my plants. It orignally came with a plastic cover which is in pretty rough shape...

:thumbsup Jim that is great and I wish I had some of your energy today but it is supposed to get to 4 degrees tonight and I didn't do anything today. I knew it was going to be cold and put extra hay down in the chicken coop yesterday. Put the chickens away at 4:00 inside of 5:45 when it gets...

    Great herbs at Whole Foods

Actually I was planning on leaving it out. I am going to plant it in my new green house and then if it gets colder I can always cover it in the greenhouse. If it is covered in my greenhouse that should raise my "zone to 7b" which will be ok for rosemary.

    Speaking of cabbage...

I ate cabbage but never really liked cabbage until last year and I grew Cour De Bue and it was the best cabbage I have every eaten. They are a really nice size for dinner. I have also found that the more things I grow in my garden the more food I accuately like and not just eat because it's...

    Getting a Green house

Where did you get your extra clips? I have been looking for some because I have read other people say that they used extra clips and I would rather not be picking up panels from the fields every other day.

    Heirlooms...seed to seed

Monty, I disagree. I have been reading a book about year round gardening and my guess is you are zone 5 which is where I am. I live in one of those micro climates that also has cooler temps mostly because of elevation. You will need to take some measures to insulate your veggies that you are...

Well I love the color green so it's fine. I have been planning this for over two years so I know how you feel. Ordering the pots today was like the "OK I have a greenhouse and know how to use it" moment. I ordered several greenhouse veggies already and just waiting to get it closed up and...

    Getting a Green house

Greenhouse is coming along. We have to finish the door and puttin the two panels in the roof where the vents go. We just put the Polycarb panels in today and I have a question.... did anyone seal them in? Smart Red said she didn't seal them so do most people seal them to extend to life of the...

    Indoor gardening

My greenhouse is almost done. Hubby and I were working on it again today. It still needs the two roof panels where the vents go and the door. John hasn't finished assembling them but we did get the panels in and he finished with the anchors so it shouldn't blow away. I can't wait to be growing...

The 2013 Garden, What are You Hoping For

Marshall, I have a really stupid question, I see a lot of ads for Amaranth and it is beautiful but I have seen in the veggie section of the seed catalog. What exactly is it and how to you use it? Baker's says something about a complete source of protein. How do you harvest it and how do you...

The 2013 Garden, What are You Hoping For

I put in 2 raised bed hoop houses last year and it was awesome. I am planning on doing it again (plus I am getting a greenhouse) it really helps you feel in control of your environment (LOL cause you really never are). That and learning to compost with a hot compost pile was the 2 most...
