Another storm creeping our way. Looks like we might miss the brunt of it. Under a Hazardous Weather warming. Here we go again! Too bad we don't have cell service here. I could get a Google watch and be out in the field instead of glued to my computer to know what is coming.
Another 'looking on the positive side' about being in the national news with a devastating flood is everyone you haven't heard from in ages calls or emails to make sure you are OK. So I've been enjoying catching up with family and friends!
There seems to be no end in sight for the rain. Everyday we are under multiple watches. Last night we were under severe storm, hail, flood, and tornado watches. Fortunately we only got more rain, over an inch. River is over our crossings again, and tomorrow a repeat possible. The best news is...
We are all OK. North crossing of our road finally open, but our crossing in my photo still closed. The 2002 and 2004 floods took away anything this high in the flood plain, so I haven't heard of much new damage here. There was one loss of life here, but I have no details. My heart goes out to...
To give you an idea of what the hill country is going through, here are some videos if the links work:

The city my husband had to travel through yesterday...
We lost our last original hen, Ruzina, last night. She was in good shape and her crop was full so I think it was just old age at 9+ years. Then the mystery fish died this morning after my husband named him Noah last night for surviving the flood. He says he was some kind of perch.
Bay, looks...
We'll be OK Steve, we're sort of old hands now at weather catastrophes in a pretty tight community. When you live in a ghost town, everyone looks out for each other. Yesterday our creek went down and I was able to cross. I found a 2 inch fish flopping in the dirt on a trail and brought him in...
Now we're under a tornado watch. The 2002 and 2004 floods pretty much took out everything locally that could be in harm's way. However the other hill country communities in the news have never seen anything this big and hundreds of houses have been swept away.
DH had to take a vocal student to...
After five years in extreme and exception drought, we can't complain about the rain.
In addition to the rain we got during the day on Saturday, we got another 3.5 inches between 2 and 3 am this morning. The donkey was hypothermic in the terrible electric storm so I brought him into the living...
Wowza! Now the river is about 12 feet above normal and running at 14,700 CFS! The 89 year average is only 122 CFS for comparison. Our own creek has cut us off from our fields and the chickens. We aren't too worried yet. It would take more than 30 inches of rain to get into our house or animal...
Yes, @thistlebloom this is the road to my house, not far from us. Our creek is coming up and it will have no place to go, so it will likely back up towards our house. By tomorrow we may be shut-in as they say around here. According to the USGS streamflow the record CFS (cubic feet per second) of...
This is the third flood since I last posted. Our road is now closed both directions with about 2.5 feet of river running over the crossings. As long as our creek is is not over the road there is a long back route to civilization still open. If you want to hear the roar, click on the video link...
We have had more rain and flooding. I stayed up until four this morning watching tornado signatures come and go on the screen as the storm approached, waiting to see if I needed to bring in the donkey. The sun came out for the first time in weeks this afternoon.
Yes, well that's Texas for you, a state that once was a country. I am not personally worried, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Hopefully it's a constructive exercise and no one is injured.
Congratulations on your new dog! Sounds like your husband is already hooked.
I am using Trifexis which covers everything. With so many dogs (5) my vet has shown me how to appropriately split the pills so that it costs me less. I split a 40 lb pill in half for the two little dogs, and a 140 lb...
From what I understand, the military conducts these kinds of trainings all the time. According to what I've been reading the military operations are going to be happening in my remote part of Texas where private lands are very large ranches. These military personnel are supposed to be incognito...
@baymule , I had no idea you were that close to Van! So glad you and yours were OK. We are fairly saturated, with more rain forecast for the next ten days, so we are still under a flash flood watch. Probably he same for you. I hope you have a shelter nearby, as I worry about you in a...
Thistle, I have three 1,500 gal rainwater tanks not yet hooked up to the new roof, but I hope to eventually add enough to collect about 17,000 gallons. My chicken coop has two 150 gal tanks also not yet hooked up to their new roof that will gravity feed into their drinking system. With the...
