The good thing about the DogTek is it silences all the dogs, not just one and doesn't shock them. I've heard it doesn't work as well on little high-pitched yappers, but it should work on a Weimeraner.
Have you tried the new devices that emit a high pitched sound when dogs bark that humans can't hear? My friend with a grooming business is using this one...
@journey11 the coop has one communal mixed flock area, and several breeding apartments. At one time I had about 15 breeds going, but mostly I breed various Polands and Ameraucanas now. I think I've had up to 40 adult chickens at one time in there. Because it's so hot down here good ventilation...
Oh, I hope the chicks arrived safely!
Here are some photos of one of my coops when it was still under construction about five years ago. It was built with 80% recycled materials and took us weekends over two years because I wanted curving walls (!) It's a very nice space. Also, it was the first...
You bet, I'll take good care of them Marshall, thanks for entrusting me with your collection. I will photograph them all and send you the links so that later when you have time you can give me input as to any bean names or information you don't have time for now, so don't worry about that...
Have never tried Japanese Black Triefle before. Maybe @ninnymary can save us some seeds.
Oooh I didn't know there was an annual tomato thread, great! The most fun name of tomato I'm growing is Dancing with Smurfs. How could I pass that one by? It's a blue cherry.
It takes about 3 days in our heat for syrup to go bad, so I would think it would have more shelf-life for anyone in a cooler climate. I was under the impression that boiling not only helped better dissolve the sugar, but helped prevent mold and oxidation. No one down here boils or refrigerates...
You don't need to cut them if you are building square or rectangular beds, since their ratio is 2 long x 1 wide. Just stack the second course centered over the joints of the first ones, then when you turn the corner with your bed let the short end of that one complete the missing half block. I...
@Lavender2 I use a 4:1 water to sugar ratio all season, and I don't bother boiling it since I usually have to refill all my feeders three times a day. It is the hot temperature here that makes the syrup mold and turn to vinegar, but when it is consumed that quickly I don't have to worry about...
Berkeley Tie Dye was another of the tomatoes I grew last year but it was killed by the tornado. A lot of the tomatoes I am growing this year I have been waiting to taste for two years now! It will be fun comparing all our same ones since you and Mary are growing this one, too.
Over the last three days I've been a busy bee!!!!! I sowed 200 flour corn seeds (still have 300 more to go) including Tohono O'odham and Lavendar Parching;
Over 120 Lima beans including Alma's Dutch, Ganymede, Hereboontijie, Hopi Gray, Hopi White Hatiko, Hopi Red, Horn Speckled, Madagascar...
@thislebloom and @Lavender2 same here, I think I've only ever seen damage to two tomato plants out of hundreds I've planted each year for over a decade, yet I have lots of these moths. There must be something the larval stage prefers to tomatoes in each of our environments.
I heard from a...
I have a friend in Oakland with a landscaping business that's always looking for dependable help, he has his own farm he works on weekends up your way.
Check with a local cat rescue group, see if there's someone willing to foster your cats while you find another place. A long time ago something similar happened to me, I had two beloved dogs and the place I temporarily moved would only let me keep the smaller one, so I found someone to keep my...
This afternoon a couple hummingbirds landed on me, so I guess not all my buddies are gone. @Beekissed we have left a lot of natural flowering vegetation and planted more that they visit, too. We're pretty much dedicated to their enjoyment :) Do you get hummingbird moths, too? I love to watch...
Well, I am heartbroken...I've come to realize this week that the state champion Italian stone pine we lost in the tornado must have been home to the majority of my hummers. We used to see them at sunset hovering above it. And it was nesting season when the tornado struck. Imagine losing your...
I've been chomping at the bit to get my planting resumed, but the crews have been here all week ripping off the tornado damaged roof and putting on the new one, installing three skylights and a vented range hood, all looking wonderful. I've been moving pets and plants around to keep them out of...
