I grow and use lemongrass, rosemary, thyme(german, english, lemon, french and orange spice or something like that), basil(sweet, opal, cinnamon, lemon and this year lime) sage, mint(I don't use these often), chives, garlic and shallots.
Most of the time 'cat grass' is either oats or wheat grass. I've grown oats, or I grab some grass while I'm outside for them to nibble on. I also have catnip growing all over. I cut and dry it for them and give them some fresh.
The worst weed here is creeping charlie. I pull a lot of charlie out of the gardens. The lawn is pretty much mixed weeds, and I do like it that way. But CC drives me crazy.
The second one doesn't look like feverfew to me. I have it growing in my garden and it has more lacy or fernlike leaves. Does it get any flowers? Feverfew has small white daisy like flowers with yellow centers. I don't think it looks quite like columbine either. But it's hard for me to make out...
I have animals and get those stupid moths in the seed or dry food sometimes. They are pretty easy to get under control, even if you end up with lots of them. First find out what they are in and toss it. I use gallon bags for all dry goods. Flour, pasta, rice, bird food. That kind of stuff. Then...
I like purslane and sneak it with the other greens. Also lambsquarter. I've tried chickweed but I don't have a lot growing. I should try red rooted pigweed, I have it all over. Sweet potato leaves are good and plentiful. When I take the dogs for a walk in the woods I snack on wild black...
I don't worry about hair, at all. It happens, if it's not the dogs or cats, it's mine. I dunno, I've just never been bothered with it. The vacuum picks up most. Now that I have a dane it's the slobber, and I'm getting over that too. Luckily she doesn't drool much, only when she gets excited or eats.
Yes, it would be nice. Some nights I can't move. My oldest cat always sleeps next to my chest, another by my knees, unless the puppy comes up. Then he moves to the other side. Since Freyja(the 'puppy') sleeps at the bottom of the bed I just put my legs over her. But sometimes it's just easier to...
I have three dogs. Vegas is a lab/pointer mix, he sleeps with my BF's mom(we all live together) in a queen size bed. Shorty is a basset hound, he sleeps in a few different spots. Either in my BF's father's room(his mom and dad sleep in different rooms because his dad snores and moves around too...
Same here, insanely cold winter and lots of snow and ice. But we have tons of bees of all kinds all over the flowers. I've even been stung four times this year, before that it's been years since my last sting.
Best I can find says that the flies are attracted to the sweet smelling nectar from the flowers. It's odd I haven't had any problems with flies around my mints.
Thanks, I think I skimmed that article but will read over it. Some of my carrots have it really bad and they have a ton of little hair like roots. Some carrots right next to those have none or very few. I planted a mix of varieties so I don't know which are infected and which aren't. It doesn't...
I had zucchini... again. We are eating two or three zucchini a day and picking five or more. And lemon squash, but they are just getting started. I made some zucchini 'crab' cakes. Grated up a few zucc, mix with an egg, bread crumbs, crushed crackers and old bay and a touch of sea salt. Form...
I was pulling some carrots and it looks like some have what looks like knot root nematodes. Some have a lot of them and look misshapen, others only have a few and some have none at all. Beets, carrots and lettuce are all in that area and it looks like some of my beets have them too and the...
My carrots store very well in the fridge, even for a couple of months. Don't ask how I know... But I found there are two very important things I have to do. One is cut the greens off and then put them in a zip top bag. The will last for a few days in an open container with the tops cut off, but...
I'm going quinoa this year. I had no idea that and lambs quarter look nearly identical. I know I have lambs quarter going with the quinoa. I'm hoping at some point I will be able to tell them apart. Anyone know if lambs quarter seeds are edible? I want to try amaranth too. I already have lots of...
Never had flies on my mint. I have a bunch of different types of mint in pots, they are flowering now, no flies. It does seem odd, can you get a photo?
I'm a bit warmer then you are, I'm in zone 6. But I've never had any trouble with them. They even survived last winter. We also almost never water them and they grow and multiply. I have no problem with deer or squirrels eating them. Once they flower the mother plant will die back though. Also...
I have a volunteer butternut and it looks completely different. The one pictured looks round to me, my butternut look like butternut in shape from the beginning.
Could be spaghetti. I'm growing it for the first time this year and have some that looks like that. But I'm also growing butterup and sugar pumpkins and I'm guessing what each one is since I forget what I planted where.
