I planted quinoa for the first time. I also have lambsquarter that pops up in my garden. I didn't realize they looked alike. Now I am sure I have some lambsquarter growing with my quinoa, but I can't tell them apart. I wouldn't mind but I don't want the lambsquarter to go to seed. How can I tell...
I've been seeing that in my zucchini flowers, so far it's only the male flowers. So far this year it's been two, on different plants. Last year there was at least one I can remember, but probably more. It's like two stems grew together, and it has two flowers.
Just wanted to clarify, male calico cats are normally infertile. Females can have kittens. But I will always have a female spayed. Older female cats that are not spayed are prone to pyometra, it is an infection in the uterus. It will kill them. I've had to deal with it twice and it's not cheap...
I would love it if you would send me some seeds. They are so pretty. Then I can plant them for the fall crop. I could pass some on to my friend too. She is moving and gardening for the first time. I can't think of a better way to start then with some awesome purple peas!
Those peas are so cool! I love them. And about calico cats, most are female. But from time to time a male will pop up. It's pretty rare from what I know, the male cat has to have two X chromosomes and one Y giving them an extra chromosome. They are also normally infertile.
Anyone ever heard of Sugar Magnolia Purple Snap Peas? I just found out about them and seeing as I have this thing for purple veggies I HAVE TO have some. I have found some for sale, but I've never heard of the sites? Anyone ever use Redwood seeds? Or how about Adaptive seeds? They both have...
I love growing carrots. I have orange, red and purple carrots growing right now. I've read that if you give carrots some shade they will put more energy into growing the root, in full sun they put more energy into the tops. I put up some shade cloth to see if they grow better. Also give them...
I don't know the varieties. Some I got from walmart, a red type and yukon gold. Also some all blue from lowes. I've also grown sprouted grocery store spuds. Last year was a mix of grocery store and small potatoes from the year before crop. This year I ordered some different types of potatoes...
Nope, they always grow from the roots, doesn't matter if I cover the stem. I haven't seen any grow the stem that is buried. No roots that I can think of either. I do bury my potatoes about a foot down. But they all come from the root area. If I had more space I would experiment. Doesn't really...
This is the first year I am not going to bury part of the stem like I'm almost always reading about. I have never gotten any potatoes grown from the stem, and it's too much work for nothing. Your potato plant looks really nice. Hopefully you get a huge harvest.
You lost the battle, you'll get them next time. Get some BT, it works. I'm fighting asparagus beetle larva right now, but I can't tell it the BT is working because it's raining EVERY DAY. I know how you feel.:hugs
With the help of my little bratty bird I could sure give it a good try... Breakfast, bowl of snap peas. Lunch, snap pea sandwich. Dinner, snap peas with a side of snow peas and some snap pea for dessert. Mmmmmmmmmmm, snap peas.:drool Of course after a few days of that I'll be like...
I'm going to give it a try, I do have a food saver and I love it. It really makes a difference. I still have some carrots and green beans from last year in the freezer in food saver bags. Though for snap peas my favorite way to eat them is raw, they are so sweet.
I have more sugar and snow peas then I can eat fresh. And a ton more to be picked. They are doing great this year. Last year I blanched and froze the extra peas, but I don't like how they came out, so off to google I went to see if I could just freeze them without blanching. It seems some people...
