It seems like there were more here this summer also, or I just paid attention to them more. They are always on the bee-balm when blooming. Lately they are really liking the turtlehead, I've never noticed them on that so much before.
You get a few different species there, do you see the Rufous?
I usually have 2 feeders up but I broke one this Spring and didn't get around to replacing it. When more hummers started showing up, the little guy in the last photo sat on the feeder for a long time, chasing off any that tried to get near it. Even after I put up the second feeder, it chased...
Your poor little hummer, I hope he made out okay, @so lucky.
One hummer kept hovering over DH's head. He has a small crater in the top of his head from a fractured skull as a child. I threatened to put red hummer juice in it. He wouldn't go for it.
The hummers usually leave here by...
I will for sure do the soak and sprout thing next year. I was going to do that this year, per your suggestion, but our Spring was so cool and wet I decided to start some ahead... then the garden filled up. For volunteers, I have to have my fence up and secure early or the deer will get them...
Oh, believe me Mary, I tried. They would zip and dart so fast, there was just a bunch of blurry smudges every time I tried to get a group shot. This is as good as it gets. I guess I need to get better with action shots.
There are just a few here today, I will miss them.
There ya go @Nyboy , just buy more beer, and lock the bathroom... put a restroom sign on the arbor. It might also keep the deer away, for a while anyway.
My arbor is still brown also, but I don't think I want lots of pee on my wisteria. There is a nice patina where the flux was applied by the...
Same thought as Carol Dee... Lucky you are a handyman, @majorcatfish. Hopefully it will make the rest of the day seem easy.
Our well is 200 feet, if I reset the breaker and nothing happens, it would be more than a bad morning.
My morning has been uneventful, since my DIL called and...
I am just not destined to be a sunflower grower.
As promised in this thread, I started some mammoth sunflowers in paper pots. They were healthy and doing great so I carefully planted a long row of them. They got about 2 feet tall and a young deer got under my fishing line deer fence and ate...
For the past two weeks we have had droves of hummers! Ten to twenty at a time fighting over my one little feeder. I know they are just passing through, but I went and picked up 2 more feeders. It was so cool, but you had to be prepared to duck when you walked out the door!
It must...
It's 'Hearts of Gold' Cantaloupe, an heirloom from 1895. 'The most popular variety grown for the Midwest market in the 1930's. Good yields of 3 pound melons with sweet, deep orange flesh and small seed cavity' - according to the packet.
They got off to a slow start with our cool wet Spring...
So glad everyone was OK!!, still a hard thing to go through.
A dad and his young daughter were just killed here, in that type of crash. A young driver not paying attention. Very sad.
Do you have a photo of your copper arbor? I think they are my favorite.
DH and I made one, before copper cost as much as gold. It's out of public sight, but I worry about thiefs too! Creeps! :smack
Sad when you have to wish something would depreciate.
I have 3 arbors, so far, and have an offer on a fourth. But I know right where I need one!
A guy was storing this patio set for a friend in FL. She had the set for 60 years. He stored it for 12 years and told her it has to go. By the construction and type of screws, I have been able to...
Nice find, great price!
I think I have an arbor obsession I refuse to admit to. Every garden needs at least one, and a clematis!
I just scored on an antique cast iron patio set, now trying to find a place to put it.
Great to hear things are going well! I hope the 'miserable' is gone real quick and recovery faster than they expect! Take care, every day will get better.
We usually don't freeze cauliflower, but used to add about a cup of milk to the water when we boiled it. Now we steam or roast, for cooking.
I didn't know if this would help when blanching/freezing, or if lemon juice would be better to try (we use that for apples) ... so I looked it up for...
I am clueless, looking at your parts list, @MontyJ , but I know how frustrating an old PC is, so Congrats!
My son built me a new one earlier this year. Windows 7 seemed daunting, but it was not as confusing as I expected. I got his usual tip, 'just play around with it Ma, you'll get it'...
