I'm a wimp. It was windy yesterday, so I spent the day in the greenhouse. I had a bunch of seedlings to pot up, so didn't completely waste the day. Have a few more to get to maybe Monday.
Having visions of the pots, baskets and flowerbeds filled with color and me sitting on the deck...
I used roofing shingles as week block in a really nasty strip beside DH's shop. It worked great for me. Of course, when he was looking for his roofing shingles to repair a little building he stores his wood in...:barnie Oh well, like I said, they worked great.

I looked up Salpiglossis. They're really beautiful and they can be grown from seed, I will try some next year. I'm always glad to have a new bloomer. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

These are green onions 'White Banner' from Stokes Seeds. They are growing in the area where we planted them last year, so I am assuming they are volunteers. I think you know a LOT more about onions than I do.
I use tons of them in my cooking, so am glad to have these guys so soon. I want...
Calibrachoa are often called 'Million Bells'. They are very easy to grow and bloom like crazy from Spring until a couple of good frosts kill them off. The only bad thing about them is you cannot buy seeds because they're patented or something. I buy plugs in February from a wholesaler in...
@journey11 You are sure working hard this Spring to save your summer. Sorry about the losses. One year we had record snows which bent my Japanese maples clear to the ground and buried them for a month or more. They looked pretty rough when I was able to uncover them. They survived it, though...
Didn't get much done today, rain and cold off and on. I checked the greenhouse, everybody in there seems to be doing fine. I've got blooms on some of the calibrachoa, it's really nice to see them again. The snow is still on Mica Peak, so nothing outside without cover yet. (except some green...
@digits There was a place in Troy Mt. where they took the posts. Going to Bonners Ferry was a big deal once a month. The Yak was pretty remote then. Mike's grandparents lived off old highway 2 near Bonner Lake. Mike remembers the years working out there as a young teenager as some of the...
So glad you are able to get back into your yard. I had to have a very difficult spinal surgery in 2011. I was so weak that all I could do that year was sit in the greenhouse (my wonderful husband built it to encourage me) with a few plants and just enjoy them. I really love the fact that you...
@Steve, my husband grew up near the Yak River working with his grandfather making posts for fences! Seems like another world ago, doesn't it? I remember the smudge pots for the orange groves (when they still existed) in Southern California. My granddaughter saw a picture of a dial telephone...
You guys are sure getting it this year! I guess I'd better not complain about our weather being in the 50's and windy! I am very glad we're not still having snow; although it is possible (probably not this year) in our climate to have a freak snowstorm late in the Spring. I hope your weather...
@ Lavender, thanks for the good wishes for my father. Mom did go out 'feet first' and after she was gone, Dad didn't manage too well. He misses being in his home sometimes, but has adjusted pretty well. It was very hard to have to move him. It's great that your son and grandchildren are...
I know what you mean Lavender 2. I have a 90 year old father living close to my house. He's in a retirement home, but my schedule is often interrupted too. Fortunately, he is only about 10 minutes away from me. We had to move him out of his house two years ago because he couldn't manage in...
Love Ava's smile with her plants. I am still trying to teach my four year old granddaughter 'green side up, brown side down'! She loves to help me in the garden. It's fun when the kids are interested.
