    Returning from My Walk

We're getting there! I live in the same region as you, I think. (Dishman-Mica area of Spokane Valley) I am celebrating Daylight Savings Day eve. Starting the cleanup of all the things I didn't do last fall (as usual). It was pretty chilly here today but it was sure good to be outside.

    Too Early?

I love 'regionalisms'. I think it makes speech more interesting. Thanks everyone for the fun examples! Several generations ago, some of my ancestors came from 'mis ur RA' I have no idea where that is ;) (lol) Around here you sometimes hear someone say crick (creek). Got a chance to dig...

    Inside Starts, Yours & Mine

Nice Steve, I have contented myself to look at pictures of my garden from last year. I just realized it's March (yikes). Very good looking seedlings.

Planning New Strategy for Eternal War on Slugs (UGH)

I like the idea of ducks, but am not in a position right now to take care of them. I could offer them a feast of slugs, but not much else right now. I like the idea, though!! A friend of mine has ducks, maybe I could talk to her about letting her ducks take a 'vacation' in my yard. I could...

Greenhouse Built from old 'Garage Tent'

We have wind here too in the Spring and Fall. That's why we built the horseshoe raised beds. The supports are in buckets filled with concrete inside the horseshoe perimeter. We then filled the horseshoe with gravel and soil. I know what you mean about seeing something go flying through the...

Planning New Strategy for Eternal War on Slugs (UGH)

Sorry you're battling slugs too. We live in the same general location (Eastern WA, ID). Do you have the kind with a nasty grey body with black stripes?

Planning New Strategy for Eternal War on Slugs (UGH)

I am going to use Sluggo this year. I love your idea of the soda bottle thistlebloom!! I am also planning early morning slug hunting excursions. I was hoping that they would be frozen out this year with the cold, but read that they can withstand very cold temperatures. I have tried the...

Planning New Strategy for Eternal War on Slugs (UGH)

They are attracted to the yeast in beer and drown. I have seen those huge slugs on your side of the state, UGLY. I salt mine when I catch 'em too.

Planning New Strategy for Eternal War on Slugs (UGH)

I'm in Eastern Washington, which is much different than Coastal Washington (we're an arid climate with four seasons). I have seen those gigantic 'banana' size slugs on the coast, though. Disgusting!!. I get the smaller grey and black striped varmits. I do use beer, but am always interested...

Planning New Strategy for Eternal War on Slugs (UGH)

I have spent a good deal of time this winter planning a new all out attack on the slugs that are probably wintering over in my garden right now. I hate those ugly slimy varmits. This year, I am going to try more baiting and trapping. I'm going to be especially careful to keep the beds clean...

    Damping Off Fungicide!

I was using peat pots last year in my greenhouse and got a really ugly white mold all over the peat pots (too much moisture?) I was really worried and sprinkled cinnamon all over the pots and the soil around the seedlings. The mold stayed on the peat pots, but most of the starters survived. I...

Greenhouse Built from old 'Garage Tent'

Yes, it was a 'garage' tent. We had used it for the food tent for two of our kids' weddings and then it just stood in the yard for years. The framework was good, so we could use it as the main framing for the greenhouse. Thanks for your interest!

    Ethical Question

The cultivation and sale of marijuana is now legal in Washington State where I live. It will be interesting to see what the long term consequences or benefits are! Personally, I don't use it, but I have heard that it helps some chronic diseases. I guess I'm still on the 'fence' about it. :hu
