They had the Goliath bush, should have gotten one of those. I have grown the better bush before and they were good. Better boy does well here. I guess I can justify it because the rest of my 30 odd tomatoes I started from seed
I guess I'm "penny wise and pound foolish", these were almost $45, but if I can get home grown tomatoes in May, on a tomato sandwich with Duke's mayo and white bread, it will be worth it. If it gets cold, and I'm sure it will, I will put a couple gallons of hot water under the cover with them...
These are rabbiteye's, 5 "premier" and 3 "bright well" for a pollenator. First time with them, but I'm looking forward to little blue hands on the grandkids!
@so lucky, I'm gonna baby them, cover with agribon and maybe put a couple gallons of hot water under the covers at night. If the weather...
DW has approved adding these to the landscape allowing me room for more stuff in the garden and I like it. I have a large back yard that I'm sure I could figure out how to fill up, but she says no way.
Not complaining though, because, overall she appreciates the garden and is a big help when...
No, I don't do the teaching, our counsellors do. Each one had to go through 10 hours of online training and participate in a day long seminar. After the seminar all 5 sites will get 2 raised beds, plus soil, seeds, plants and a vermicompost bin. An extension master gardener will also volunteer...
My day job is leading Greenville county's parks and rec department. We received a grant from Clemson's 4-H to create children's demonstration and teaching gardens in our community centers after school programs. Here's a couple pics|
But last frost date is April 15! Dang it's hard to wait!
Lots of Alliums, Broccoli, Bok Choi, Kale, Cabbage, and lettuce growing, potatoes in the ground. Been going to the garden at least twice a day and have harvested spring onions and kale. Trellis is up, mulch is down, really nothing to do...
Really blessed to live down south, I overwintered kale, chard, spinach, Brussels sprouts, onions, garlic and cabbage. And I just put in transplants of more cabbage, broccoli, bok choi, red romaine lettuce and seeded potatoes, carrots, peas and bunching onions. Overwintered cabbage is heading up...
It's on top of the sheet mulch, and not much of it, but I have more. Hopefully it melts before the bugs come out. I guess I literally have some "sweet" soil now.
Major, I'm below the 35th parallel also, Greenville SC, and this fall was the first time I attempted a fall garden. Nice harvest of broccoli and bok choi. Kale, onions and spinach over wintered nicely and so did Brussels and a long season cabbage. I expect a very early spring cabbage harvest and...
@Beekissed, I know, had more potatoes than I thought and ran out of room have to save some dirt for the warm weather stuff. Maine potato lady said to crowd them a bit and they would not get as big. Maybe I should have saved some of them for eating?
Thanks @Beekissed & @Ridgerunner, 40 lbs now in, on top of the ground and covered with straw. Look how dark and and rich the soil is after 2 years of sheet mulching, without the compost its red clay. Planted bok choi, sugar daddy peas, evergreen bunching onions, 3 kinds of carrots, and Dutch...
