When we get our forever home (in 7 years) I want to do that. But, for now we'll use that system since we can move it when we go. This whole project had been an experiment just to see if we could get anything to grow.
Here's the rest of the vertical stuff. It accepted the pictures but, turned them all sideways. Oh well.
This is the pea pole. We have about 12 peas planted around it. I'm hoping they all climb and yield lots.
The potatoes are growing out of the sides and have completely taken over the...
Several years ago I planted wintergreen mint from seed. I'll never do that again. It took forever for them to sprout then it took over the entire pot and somehow managed to get in the pot with my peppers. Most nurseries and the big box stores have different kinds of mint. I bought a chocolate...
Yes. She's 2. She comes every evening and tries to pet the chickens. The stay far away from her though. But, I knew the berry was there and figured she'd like it. My kids are waiting for the "big" harvest next week. I think big is relative at 9 & 5. :)
So, instead of posting pictures in a bunch of different threads. I'll put them here.
The strawberries have exceeded my expectations. Every plant has a bunch of flowers. That is our first big strawberry. I didn't get to taste it. The little girl from next door picked and ate it. My kids...
I have 10 picklebushes planted. 10 straight 8s and the 12 burpless ones hubby brought home. I'm going to have some many cucumbers my eyes will probably cross. But, they will make some delicious pickles!
I was curious because I'm in El Paso. I water 3 times a day. The person that gave the rhubarb to me grows it next to her porch. I put two in two separate large planters. Those are the one's thriving. The one I planted in the ground isn't really growing.
DH made one for the kids last year. The oldest took it to school for science show and tell (she was a 2nd grader) and it was confiscated by the administration for being volatile. When she hooked all the wires up the bolt got hot (she crossed the wires) and melted 2 paperclips. DH had to go up...
@OaklandCityFarmer thanks for the information! Once the plants get bigger I'll have to try it out.
@secuono going to our local nursery is bad for our pocket book. Everyone we go we come home with something. We've completely maxed out our yard space. No more room. But, husband stopped on his...
Thanks I'll look the poison up. Unfortunately we can't do cats my dogs would eat them. And living in SW Texas means no trees nothing green really unless you grow it.
We've always had a field mice problem. They like to come in our house through the back door because it stays open. We catch them and release them in the desert away from our house. But, now something has dug up all my corn, okra and pumpkin seeds. I've now planted twice and am ready to give up...
I showed this to my husband. He pulled all the bourbon bottles down that I've been saving for a year (for a project). He filled them with water and put them next to most of our pepper and tomato plants. Thanks for the idea @rebbetzin !
I made jelly today. I used cilantro, thai basil, parsley, and just a little bit of mint. It smells really good and is a pretty color. If it sets I'm hoping to use it on chicken this week. It's actually more orange than this looks.
I found a place online that specializes in lavender but, got very overwhelmed with all the different types and how many I should buy. I'll research those two you (@so lucky ) mentioned and see what I find out. Thank you for the information!
