I'm researching lavender and have found out there are tons of different kinds. I didn't know this. I'm looking for some to use in soaps and shampoos and that I can keep alive through the winter. Any suggestions?
I was scouring the internet this morning for a glass project (we had a bunch of glassware get broken this last move and I've been hanging onto it for for no reason) to do with my kids. What I found was suncatchers. Any type of glass works. You need a few old plastic lids (any shape or size) and...
In stores (the ones I've paid attention in) the stevia is always with the "organic" sugars like Agave and sugar in the raw. Which I don't know what makes them organic.
Sugar in the raw and brown sugar both are just fully processed sugar that have molasses added back in. Agave syrup is just...
I read that the leaves can be dried then processed to make a sugar type substance. Which makes sense they sell it in stores as an organic product. I'll keep everyone updated as we experiment.
We have a bunch of pork that my FIL have us and I'm thinking it would be really good on that. The recipe makes 5- 8 oz. jars. I figure it would be a good experiment. We, may wind up really liking it.
I had my Ball book out earlier looking for ways to use all the parsley in my garden. I've already dried 2 pounds of the stuff. I've even given some away.
So, in the book there was a recipe for herb jelly. It listed a bunch of herbs to use. So, I thought well I have lots of Thai Basil and lots...
So, we went to the nursery today (that was an awful idea :) ) and they had stevia plants for sale. $1.99 for a pack of 6. So, we brought them home planted them in a few small planters. They are nice and green and pretty but, now what?
Family owned business. So, I guess it was owners prerogative. We never had another problem after we started wearing rings on the other hand. We figured it helped us fit in better anyway.
I'm nit sure this is widely practiced anymore. Especially in the North and West of Germany. In Southern and parts of Eastern Germany it's still very widespread. But, that is where many of the crops are grown and for some reason it seems they are more about customs. Just an observation.
For...
I can answer this one! In Europe the Easter rabbit brings colored eggs to children who have been good during the Lenten season. The more eggs the child/family gets the better their crops and blessing will be for the year. In many European cities there is an Easter Egg tree over the towns wells...
We have a beagle that "purrs". I don't know how it started but, if you're petting him and tell him your dune he grabs your hand and then purrs until he's satisfied. He will also apologize when he does something wrong. He likes to get in the trash and after you see it you can say if you don't...
Thank you! Who knows where we're headed next. We were at Fort Bragg prior to Germany. We still have a year could be more before we get told where to next. We are hoping to finish out our time closer to home (Louisiana).
@catjac1975 I have a neighbor on one side who thinks we're nuts. But, can't wait until the biddies start laying. The neighbor on the other side hasn't said anything. I don't know if that's good or bad. All of our friends think it's great. We've been bringing their kids over and letting them...
I finished planting today (well mostly)! The peppers, tomatoes and the last of the peas went in today. If the peppers survive the windy weather I'll be set. I sowed some lettuce, spinach and rutabaga (thanks @HotPepperQueen ). I just need to find them a home. I still have 6 unused tires from...
I use craft sticks (the really big ones) and an industrial sharpie. I can really get them in the dirt so when we have crazy wind they stay. It also stands up to the heat.
We have them on all three sides. Every house has a wall of some sort. The reason is the rainy season. We get 3 months of rain starting in August/September and it keeps the yard and house from flooding. Not that it helps all the time. We had to sandbag last year.
Thanks for all the advice. I'll...
How will I know when my potatoes are ready for harvest? I read that when they start to flower then the tops die is this correct information?
Using the guide from the seed potatoes it says 55 days. 55 days would be mid June for me. Is this a typical time for harvest?
I naturally couldn't be easy...
We were busy this weekend too! I got 4 rows of corn planted, okra, pumpkin, watermelon, green beans, and cucumber. I moved the tomatoes and peppers outside hoping they will perk up and do better. I also, pruned the parsley, mint and cilantro and hung it to dry. Today I cleaned out the chicken coop...
