    Sawdust As A Soil Builder

    Sawdust As A Soil Builder

I don't know any specifics for your area. Anywhere that cuts or resizes lumber will have it - sawmill, moulding mill, cabinet shop, etc. Edit - There is a big difference in sawdust and wood chips. Lots of info. No time right now.

    Sawdust As A Soil Builder

I know soil testing would be a good idea, but I haven't done it. :idunno Because the mills where I get it are small, there is usually 2 or 3 kinds mixed together. I try to get as much poplar as I can. Maple and Ash are ok, but take longer to rot. I try to avoid Red Oak. It is relatively high in...

    Hot Pepper Question

No thanks. Most of the stuff I've learned along the the way has cost me time, money, pain, or sometimes all 3. I don't need to go looking for more.

    Sawdust As A Soil Builder

About 25 years ago, after building my house, I had a small area about 30'x30' that ended up with some of the basement clay subsoil on it. This dirt was so bad, even weeds wouldn't grow after 2 years. I was working at a sawmill at the time and had access to all the free sawdust I wanted. I...

A Late, Cold Spring Brings A New Idea

:frow I cover a lot of territory. I'm on multiple forums covering multiple topics. I use the same username everywhere. I Googled my username out of curiosity and found a couple forums I forgot about. Hope your beans come out ok. Looks like I'm waiting at least another week longer than I thought...

    Hottest Day, Think You Know?

We've had a very cool year from January until now. Relatively few days in the 90's. I'm glad because I can't take the heat like I used to. Getting old sucks and I'm not even old yet. My son laughs when we talk about hot weather. He spent a year in Iraq. 130*+ every day in the summer.

I HATE Tucson!!! Sad day at Glenn Cottage...

Sorry to hear about your dog. I've lost a couple to cancer also, years ago. The laws everywhere are getting completely ridiculous. People in general used to be nice and laws were for criminals. Now, people are selfish and have no common sense (or just plain stupid). Government keeps passing...

    Corn Thread for 2014

I had about a dozen like that in my Stowell's. I didn't see any in the Rainbow or Silver Queen this year.

    Corn Thread for 2014

I picked some of my Rainbow corn Friday. The one end of the patch was pretty much ready, but some of the rest needs to dry a while. I am 6' tall and haven't grown any corn except sweet corn for at least 20 years. One thing that took some getting used to was looking up to find ears to pick...

Where to store all those jars??? How about in the piano!

That sounds like a neat idea. I agree with baymule. I have dismantled a couple. It's just screwed and bolted together. Be careful though. There is at least one very heavy part inside. You don't want it to drop and hurt you or damage something when you take the last screw out. You will need...

A Late, Cold Spring Brings A New Idea

Having long rows is nice. I'm sure you will think so too when you get moved. When you're picking, though, it seems like you're never going to reach the end. As for the neat part, soon I'll talk about how my Troybilt tiller helps me tremendously. I bought my second one used a few months ago for...

    Hot Pepper Question

I broke off a large branch on one of my habanero plants. :he It was loaded with peppers. Can they still be used? Are they hot before they ripen?

    Peppers, Peppers, and more Peppers

Looks like a great harvest. I'm new at growing peppers. Did you pick the jalapenos before they ripened or is that their color when ripe? The jalapenos I grew last year turned red.
