You have a wonderful variety of things growing, and they all look happy!
I see your hens like the shade from your butterfly bush, I have one in my yard, a very pretty plant when in bloom.
Now that's what I call an open air chicken coop..lots of ventilation!:D;)
Personally I would be very...
I had heard that if you sprinkle used coffee grounds around your carrot beds, the carrot rust fly that lays the maggots (that do the damage), can't smell the carrot greens. The smell is apparently what attracts them. I suspect the marigolds may do the same masking effect.
Garden cloth is still...
Some good info about this problem, and what you might be able to do to prevent it. In some cases there is not much you can do.

I'm not familiar with that squash either, is it also know by another name?
I know with winter squash it's a good idea to sun cure them, for better storage life. Simply leave them out in the sun for a few days. Rotate them, so sunlight can hit all of the fruit. Keep them dry, IE evening dew, if...
Soil conditions, PH, and proper watering methods play a huge roll, as others have suggested, but there is another important factor, as I have found out.
Your choice of seed, or seedlings if bought from a nursery, can also play an important role in production. There is a huge variety of seeds...

Be interesting to see how the greens grow in...

Wow! Your winter squash are already finished? Mine are still in flower, although I do have several immature fruits on the vines. Amazing what a difference 17 degrees of latitude can do. I'm at 49*n19 min. You are at 32n43 min.
Dog food fertilizer is a new one on me..lol Lots of protein..:)

Thanks everybody, glad you liked the photos.:)
Actually this has been a bad year for the garden...:/...it is just finally starting to take shape, as things mature a bit more. I just can't water it as much as I'd like to, due to the drought conditions. We have had. 50 days without rain I heard...
