    Peppers in Pots?

I have pepper seeds, pots, and will have a greenhouse... I think I want to give this a try!

    Too Early?

There's more than one way to pronounce zinnia?? For the record, it's the first pronunciation for us. Steve, do you sell them?

    Too Early?

Zinnias are very pretty, and seem fairly easy to grow. Here they attract Monarchs an other butterflies.

    Too Early?

Hmmm, there are onions in the old seed packets I found. We've always started them from sets. I also have some spinach and lettuce. It can't possibly hurt to give it a try.

    Too Early?

Oh no, not the zinnias! :) I'm not going to rely on anything I start early. Not putting all my seeds in one basket, just gotta plant SOMETHING before I lose my mind completely. I really, really, need some warm weather.

T- shirts, check. Shorts, check. Flip-flops, check. Ready or not, here I come!

    Too Early?

OK, Baymule, I'm packin' my bags - I can be there by Monday, I'm pretty sure. Now, where do I find you and your 70 degrees?

    Too Early?

DigitS' - I love the idea of all the room in the world in a greenhouse. That greenhouse would be heated to about 80* and full of big, tropical plants, have lots of light shining in and maybe even have a goldfish pond. Sigh. Going to turn on some lights now and get the teakettle heating...

    Too Early?

Thanks for the replies. I have some packets of old seeds (some go as far back as 2006) that I might start, just for the heck of it to get it out of my system, and save my newer ones for later. If it doesn't work, oh well. At least I'll find out if these things are still viable, and if they're...

    Too Early?

It's March 1st, and the HIGH today was -4*. There is talk that the frost is anywhere from 6'-8' feet deep. I just bought a bunch of seed packets yesterday out of desperation for anything resembling spring. My thought is to start the tomatoes, peppers, broccoli and watermelon here in the house...

    Life lapped me

We didn't get much gardening done last year, either, but it was by choice. I was gone for 3 weeks in June, home on the weekends, home for a week, gone for the weekend for a nephew's wedding, home for 3 days, then off to Alaska for two weeks. Got home on a Wednesday, (by that time it was the end...

Branchin' Out - growing something NEW!

Garlic - that's already planted. And I'd like to try blueberries, if I can figure out where to put them. My new daughter-in-law said she'd like to share a garden, so we'll see what all we end up with. After doing some reading here, I will have to test the soil to see if it will need to be...

    Hoping it's not too late...

Huh - I could kill two birds with one stone there. I have chickens and clean out my coop in the fall. If I feel the need to cover with straw, I can cover with chicken poop straw! I'm very excited to see how this little experiment works out. Planning a big garden in the spring - my son and...

    Hoping it's not too late...

Thank you, Lesa for the encouragement. I soaked them for a couple of hours because that was the information on another website, rather than over night. (If you don't like what you read the first time, just keep looking until you find something that suits you, right? :) ) I did not water them...

    Hoping it's not too late...

Thanks for the info! I wonder if "previously chilled" means refrigerating them for a certain amount of time? I'm going to have to do some research on that and maybe try planting some in the spring, too, just to see what happens. I planted some from our local nursery this spring - they said it...

    Hoping it's not too late...

Thanks for the reply - I guess the worst that can happen is they'll rot in the ground. The growers around here usually plant about Halloween and plan to harvest July 4th. I see some just got planted last week, though.

    Hoping it's not too late...

I was promised some garlic back in Sept. by a local grower (we baled some straw for them to use on their garlic), but haven't gotten any yet. So, I bought some at the local food co-op and plan on planting it today or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow since I just saw something online that I have to...

    Picking New Potatoes

Oh... I guess I'll try to wait, then. Or next time, mark the ones I've robbed so I don't traumatize ALL of them! ;) It's good to know so I don't ruin my whole harvest. Thank you all for the information. It's very helpful.

    Picking New Potatoes

I don't have a great place to store them for any length of time, anyway, so that's not too much of an issue. I'd rather eat fresh new potatoes throughout the summer anyway. You're right - they're the best! :)

    Picking New Potatoes

As I was weeding the potato patch the other day, I gently felt around a few potato plants and found some nice-sized new potatoes. So I "robbed" the plant by just picking the potatoes that were there and left the plant alone. I don't think it was disruptive to the plant, but DH thinks I may have...
