@the1honeycomb - they are Nigerian dwarves. And for the record, my little guys don't smell any better or worse than my dog. :D

    The kids have arrived!

These two came home today. I'm in love! :love The black & white one is the wether, Lucky, and the all black one is the doe, Clover. They were born at the 4H fair, so that's where they got their names.

    Overwintering Annuals Indoors

@Smart Red @catjac1975 - do you keep the dahlias bareroot or potted? @seedcrazy - Maybe I'll just try that with the salvia. And do you think I should cut the torenia way back when I bring it in & let it regrow from there?

    "Proven Winners"

I'm not talking about the ones the manufacturers claim are proven winners, but the ones that have proven their worth in your garden. This year, I planted scaeveola in my full sun bed, and have been SUPER impressed. It's a groundcover and is going gangbusters. The other new one I've really...

    First attempt with edible landscaping

Oh! And I just was gifted about 10 blueberry plants, and I'd like to use them as a hedge. The thing is, they'd only be in part sun. Is that a bad idea?

    Overwintering Annuals Indoors

So I have a few annuals in my garden that I'd like to see if I can save over the winter. I remember my mom bringing in geraniums, covering them with paper bags, and leaving them in the garage all winter. Has anyone had any success with doing that with other annuals? The ones I'd like to save...

    First attempt with edible landscaping

My mom has wild strawberries in her garden & I was disappointed that they didn't have much flavor at all. I wonder if the domesticated ones are just for looks.

    First attempt with edible landscaping

I always toy with putting peppers in the flower beds because the plants always look so good the entire season. I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but I did put my herbs in the flower beds this year, too. It's been so much nicer to pop out for a snip of parsley or basil when I'm...

    First attempt with edible landscaping

After a second year where the strawberry patch has gotten completely overwhelmed by weeds, I decided to put them into the flower beds in front of my house. It seems silly, given the amount of room we have out here for planting, but I figure that putting them somewhere that I already keep...

Earthquakes and your farm/homestead or garden!

I'm in a zone where we get little ones from time to time. There was only one time that I actually felt one - I thought it was a train passing by at first. Apparently, if there's "the big one" on the New Madrid fault, we could end up with real damage. Tornadoes are a more common risk here. We...

    Your favorite way to eat......

So many great ideas! I do love them just steamed, but I put them in stir fries, too. The other night, I sauteed them with some zucchini in olive oil, then sprinkled with balsamic, basil, oregano, and feta. It was an Italian take on the garlic/ginger/soy sautee that I do sometimes.

    Moving sucks :)

Amen! As someone who just recently moved and landscaped (at least partially) a new house, it is a LOT of work. BUT, it is pretty fun to get to start over. :)

    Ground Cherries

I grew ground cherries a couple of years back. The seeds were from Baker Creek, although I'm not sure what the variety was at this point. They were really easy to grow and extremely prolific, although they live up to their name of GROUND cherry, as you've got to crawl all over to get the...

    What are these little guys?

That's it! Thanks Lavender! I've never seen them before, and the only place I've found them here is around our fire pit. Wonder how they got there....

    What are these little guys?

I was picking wildflowers today & came across these next to our fire pit. They're little - about 6", and this appears to be their full bloom.
