So lucky, I may look into some fake plants. I wonder if I could do some fakes and mix in some real greens or flowers.. Definitely something to consider.
And the curls are there. They're always there....
DH & I picked up this piece at a yard sale last year. Apparently, it's two ammo cases that some enterprising old guy put together with a couple of boards. It's decorated for Christmas, but now that the holidays are over, I need an idea for what to put in the bottom level. Right now, it's in...
We roast coffee here (well, DH does. I just enjoy the fruits of his labors). When he buys his beans, they are actually a greenish color. We used to roast with a little countertop model, but then he rigged a larger one up out of an old breadmaker from plans on the internet. I have read that...
Love the pics! I'm a little sad that I won't be able to have a true shade garden here. That's what you get by building your house in the middle of a field, I guess. The back of the house faces north, but it gets sun from about 4 on in the summer, which is probably enough to roast shade lovers.
So as y'all may have guessed, I am NOT a fan of winter in general, January in particular, or extremely cold and snowy Januarys if we're to put a fine point on it. Anyway, I'm trying to compose a list of the things that I like about winter.
1. It's nice to not feel guilty about a day spent...
If I'm not mistaken, we start them maybe 3-4 weeks before planting. It's essentially just to make sure we don't have any non-germinating seeds to leave holes in our block.
Chickie - do you start your corn seed? I'd never heard of it before, but our neighbor who runs an orchard suggested it. It actually has worked really well to make sure we don't have gaps where seeds don't germinate.
I think I might have been that excited for snow back in early December when we saw the first of it. They're calling for another inch or 2 tonight, and now it just makes me sigh and count the months til summer. ;)
Smart Red - I guess your asparagus didn't have any trouble when you planted other stuff around it? I was debating that last year, but I had a few people say it interferes with the growth of the asparagus. But that would be a great way to keep the weeds from going nuts.
We're starting over on our asparagus. The bed just is a MESS. It really is a lot of work to keep up with those weeds, I guess since we don't till it every year like we do the rest of the garden. But lucky you V! Fresh asparagus AND strawberries are 2 of my FAVORITE things about spring (along...
Trying to start off right today - got out in the fresh air this morning to take care of the chickens and refill the feeders. Having a green smoothie and a granola bar for breakfast. Hopefully the rest of the day goes as well!
Ugh, the winter funk hit me full force today! Don't know if it's work, the ridiculous cold, or the fact that I've just hit my least favorite part of the year - that stretch between Christmas and spring time - but MAN have I felt evil today! I'm giving myself this evening to wallow in my...
We've been getting rain all day. They were saying 4-8" earlier this week, but I guess we've stayed on the warm side of the mess. Of course, that doesn't mean we're dodging the frigid weather that's coming on its heels. We weatherized the old barn as well as possible for the chickens, and have...
